Default MV 2800 RPM Converter for 1JZ. Who has one?

My brother has twin TD05's on his 1JZ soarer and is looking at a converter upgrade. I have heard great reviews about the MV 2800 unit which people are saying can stall up to over 4000rpm.

So who has one and how do you like it? How high can you stall it up to?

I had one on my Built 1.5j t04z in my soarer, I could stall it over 4000rpm, no problems, how far passed that I could not tell you. I was making over 15psi @ 4000rpm under stall.

It was a great converter, very streetable. My tranny had a shift kit fitted along with one of my "Manualise Shift Box's". It has proven itself to me to be a great combination. If anyone needs either Shift Kit or Manualise Shift Box for a 1jzgte or a a340 Auto with the 3 solenoid valve body PM me.

Thanks mate! I assume this 2800 was based on a 1JZ converter or not a 2JZ one?

I have the MV 2800 with lockup converter also. Does well at the strip but still quite nice on the street. I recommend a decent transmission cooler (or 2).

I also have one behind my NA 7M.

When I got it off Michael at MV he said it would bolt straight on to a jz engine if I ever upgraded.

Seems the 1J 2800 is MVs best converter. The 2J 2800 is different, and these converters are not interchangeable due to different splines on the gearboxes. I had a 2J 2800 on my GT35-2JZ powered R31 and it wouldn't stall above 3500. It would only stall above 2800 in very cold weather.

Haven't had a good chance to test the stall on mine, wheelspin was generally a problem more than stall speed. I'd say 3500-4000 wouldn't be hard to achieve. I only have stockish turbos.

as i said in my PM 4000rpm was no worries with both the hand and foot brakes, but if i used both brakes and smashed the throttle it would easily spike to 5000+ and then snap into wheelspin, it all happens very quickly tho

I've got an MV's 2800, I use to be able to get it over 4000 day in day out.
I would backup the comment that the 2800 is the "best" ovrall stall for street use. I was thinking of going upto a 3400 a while back but decided it was overkill and you lose a fair bit of top end speed for minimal acceleration gain over a 2800.

Edit: Can you ask your brother where he bought the turbos from? i have a feeling it was from me lol
