you could put your theory to the test. Go to kmart buy your self some nice cheap home brand oil (change this regularly). Take your car out to a track day, I would suggest transporting it there (just in case). Then count the number of flat out laps you could do before engine damage occurs.

    Nah just joking.

Synthetic oils are a good idea for turbocharged cars because of the temperatures the oil can withstand. The oil that lubricates the turbo gets extremely hot as you could imagine.

It is apparently Fuchs with some badge engineering. I am running it at the moment.
I think that if I can afford it, then I will try Royal Purple next.

Yeah, Had my eye on the Royal Purple. Looks good but bloody expensive.
Hope the saying goes 'you get what you pay for' goes here or is it just for the name

i did tell her though to expect a bill for 50-100, cause their gypsey bastards and cant give anything for nothing.
most 4 bangers are 3.5 ltrs, that includes filling the filter aswell,

the 1g is only just over 4.....

i use castrol, magnatec semi synth, i only use it coz i get it for fweeeee!

and its changed after all race meets,...

ive changed the oil 4 times in 3 months......and changed the filter once,

I was also looking at the royal purple range, these look the goods, bit on the pricey side, but if it does the job exceptionaly well then you get what you pay for!!

Mind you the synthetic Nulon oil was about $44/5L

What comments do you guys/girls have or suggestions.

    Cheers τΏτ

N??? oil was put in a Lycoming 0320 aircraft engine and had a forced landing due to engine failure as two exhaust valves clogged up in the guides and stuck open. The sellers denied liability and lucky I am still alive to tell the tale.
The engineer had to hammer the valves stuck in the guide with a sledge hammer.
To get them out and they are sodium filled worth $750 each.

This story is probably irrelevent. so disregard.

The engine was a horizontally opposed 320 cubic inch 200 hp, air cooled aircraft engine so again is not relevant.

I have no idea what car oil is like but I use Penzoil or Quaker 3 state in my 3L turbo 280Z on LPG and at 5000 km the oil is like sewing machine oil clean like honey..

PS. I am told you dont put synthetic oil in brand new only real old engines???

I've been using the Castrol Edge 10w-60 in the 3S. Found being the 60 an advantage as on track days it seems to retain some more oil pressure when its hot.

But being a 6.5 L sump it costs an arm and a leg to do an oil change which I try to do after each track day.

I've always believed that change the oil more often is better than buying something more expensive.
ahahahaha in my old xc falcon sundowner panelvan i used to use the FRANKLINS $8 = 4ltrs of oil,

but the motor had 350,000 on it and burnt more oil then fuel!.....the rings were fine, but valve guides were ROOTED...and used to blow a massive cloud of smoke for about
    10-15seconds everytime you start it......LMAO!

the old MINI OWNERS saying...."can you fill up the oil and check the fuel"

no you use synthetic oil in NEW motors, as its thin and lubricates better,

you use just the usual mineral oil in older engines as its usually thicker and does burn as much....and doest leak through every tiny seal....

saying that aswell, you can get THICK viscosity full synthetic oil....but it cost an arm and a leg compared to the thiner FULL synth....

Any older PF.com members on here might remember a guy called rhspecr who apparently did a lot of chemical analysis on oils for McLaren a few years back. Apparently he wrote a lot of info on the Mobil 1 site about their oils as well. He hasn't been around PF for a while, but before he disappeared he posted up excerpts from a 15k word study he performed on a number of common oils. The results of which were an interesting read.

The thread that he posted it in has since been deleted on PF.com but I have saved the docs he posted at home and can send em through to anyone who is interested in them. There's a lot of chemical analysis information in them so a lot of it was over my head, but still some useful stuff in there.

Anyone that wants the docs PM me and I'll send them through when I'm at home.

    Have you guys seen these?

Does this mean if you take a car into Toyota thats on the 5W-20 list for a service that has 150,000kms on the engine, they will still use 5W-20?
