track shitter ignition problem

hi
my ra 23 ignition light stays on after the motor has started
i have changed the alternator and regulator
but it still stays on
i have checked all the fuses
and now, i noticed that some of the gauges dont work [oil /temp/fuel]
has anyone else had this problem
this is all i need just before the six hour

there all fine
it all worked the other day
now it doesnt
its got me stumped at the moment
i might get slim around to push the horn button

When you turn on the ignition with the engine off, does the alt light come on ? if the light is off & only lights up when the car starts up, you have a power supply problem to the charge light / instruments & what is happening is that the alt is feeding back to the dash when the car starts up, which is normal but it is meant to cancel out the power supply to the other side of the light, but if you have no initial power supply it then turns the light on not off ... Hope that makes sense ?? So you need to check for a bad fuse etc, or connection ..

when the ignition is on the light doesnt come on until the engine is running
the other week , the red light was flickering at idle, this is what made me think that it was the regulator
the alternator seems to be charging .when i disconnect it at the regulator .the engine revs pick up
i will try another regulator this morning
thanks for the help , it just seems strange that this suddenly occured, maybe the car is trying to get of of being driven hard

well i am happier now , i had a one on one talk to the car this morning , and we came to an agreement
if the ignition problem wasnt sorted i would have put datsun badges on it
well this must have worked , as it all works this morning

the red light still blinks at about 2200rpm

What condition is the battery in Ian? Also check your underdash fuses for a poor contact / partial blow.

battery is fine the fuses all make good contact
all i can do now is make sure that the battery is fullycharged up for the weekend

did you check voltage on both sides of the globe? provide a new power source for the globe?
