    Question 2tg Piston replacement?

    Hi Guys,

I'm looking for some help in sourcing new pistons for my 2tgeu.

I am wanting to do a cheap rebuild and have been told by the workshop that it would be ideal to get new pistons one size oversize and re-bore the engine to suit.

I have a full VRS kit for this but have been told that they cant find replacement pistons. I would prefer not to have to get custom made ones as this will blow the costs out a fair bit.

I have considered the 2tg/3t hybrid option but will probably go down the standard rebuild path as i don't want to spend $400 on crank prep and other work.

My workshop may be struggling as they might be looking for 2tgue pistons not 2tg ones and these may be harder or ACL and other companies may not make them?

I will call some manufacuters next week but appreciate where I can get OS ones to suit or I may just give it a hone and new rings as initiallty intended.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Pete,
Jeffro_ra28 has a set of new ACL pistons for sale at the moment.
    They're 1mm oversize too.
    Cheers

what are the numbers on the front of the head? if they are -88262 then you will have to get any hemispherical pistons you buy flycut down

Here are the pistons you are looking for.
from ACL. just tell who ever looked for them that they need to look harder.
    Check out the attachment.

If you want full details it is on page 225 of the ACL Piston catalogue, or just ask and I'll copy the page properly and send it to you.

Wombat, are those only for the 2t? I was told by the shop that the 2tg pistons are different. Will check with them this week.

    Cheers,

yeah just double checked again. they quoted 2t pistons for a celica as a different piston to this one. But the Carina had a 2tg in it and it quotes these ones. but having a look now I'm even confused about this.

I know you can order them as a standard part because a couple years ago I order them straight from bursons.

Just spoke to my workshop and they have been talking to ACXl directly, these are not the right pistons. Interesting because i thought my engine came from a Carina... Will see if the Carina came in 2tg only?

Its been a while, but no the 2t pistons are not the same as the 2tg pistons. None of the local suppliers can get the 86mm (1mm OS) ones for me. I could get some custom ones or I could get some high compression ones from Kameari direct but these are 88.5 or 88mm which takes the engine to 1750cc around US$700U + delivery...

So looks like I'm probably going down the 2tg/3t path as I have a 3tg crank coming and the 3tc pistons are readily available in Aus. Now deciding on whether to get $200 3tg pistons or spend a bit more and get some Wiseco forged pistons. Need to confirm whether the Wiseco's will need any mods to make them work.

    Cheers,

    Pete

    Poida,
I've been having the same issue finding appropriate pistons for my 2tg/3tg hybrid.
Need to be forged for turbocharging, with compression kept about standard (9-9.5:1).
The 87mm wiseco ones for a US 3tc look ideal, but not sure if they need to be flycut to suit. I have had zero feedback from Arias in the states, or their distributor Rocket here .
Answer may be custom forgies, especially considering the current exchange rate.
Anyone know of any reputable manufacturers in Oz?
