Hey,

Not too bad at all, I've got it ready to go back into the car, picture below. I ended up ditching the tacho drive from the 240z (as it was a positive trigger and friggen huge) and hacked up an after market tacho I had lying around the house (negative trigger and not requiring me to hack the shit out of the rear cluster housing).

I've even added a couple of shift light LEDs into the spot where the 240z indicator lights shown. First one will go green then orange, the second is a much brighter red

I'll post some more pics once I've got it back in the car, I'm just in the process of repairing the dash.

I didin't know the 240z tachos were any different to normal ones ..... and they are huge, "z' cars have rather large dashes.

I will try to get other dash pics of various models for anyone else who wishes to do a "old school" tacho conversion

Yeah mate, I've used the back plate and needle from the 240z. I've just used the needle center from the other tacho as the shaft was different.

1: Started as a "how can i fix my old clock to keep the original look"

2: Then i suggested replace with tacho..... and showed pritty photo, and gave informative information about Datsun tacho's and that my tacho is a factory one from a 260c.

3: Clancy found one from a 240Z which required moding but end rezult will be horn


I suggest u change the thread title Clancy to "Tacho Conversion for that factory look" or
"has your clock died and u want a factory tacho in a car that never came with one in aus?" lol

The car is now back together Below is a pic of the end result.

Let me know if anyone is interested in build photos, however as I've used the guts from a no name after-market Tacho it may be impossible to replicate exactly...

Nothing yet I've got one of those Jaycar shiftlight kits with three variable outputs to put in.

Although with a stocko 4M it won't be revving too high

ta22 one is pretty much perfect for mx13 and mx23 and they have the added bonus of having a trim pot on the back so u can change from 4 cyl to 6cly pulses
