Default Valve Spring Compressor for 4AGE 20V

Anyone had any success using any off the shelf valve spring compressors on the 20V engine? Being such a small valve most compressors are too large. I have thought of maybe looking for something used for motorbikes but not sure whether I need to look down this path. I'm sure there are some backyard ways of doing it but a correct tool would be the best.

backyard tool has always worked for me.... either use a 13/16 spark plug socket... or if thats too large use a 5/8..... OR after writing below... get a Oxy sensor socket

Using a cut off wheel... remove 2 of the 6 sides of the socket(hex bolts use a 6 sided socket) then use a palm ratchet.

Most of the 4AG valve springs are relatively light - stock 16V springs have a seat pressure of about 35#. Place a balled up rag under the head to keep the valves up. place the socket over the retainer... and push down....... using a magnet to pop the keepers sometimes makes getting the keepers easier

Yeah thanks guys, I ended up modifying a G-clamp and cutting up some tubing as others have described to adapt to the valve. All works well.

way to go, dont forget to use some grease to hold the collets to the valve when you put it back together. Another thing I did is keep a rag over the tool when I could for when a collet decided to flick out, although I didnt use the grease.

Cheers Sam, the grease trick is a good idea. I only got time to do two valves yesterday and getting the tiny little collets to sit back in was a bit frustrating. Just have to get the feel for it I suppose. Well only another 18 to go!!
