    Default 18r-g in Ta22

    Hey all,
I know this has been discussed a bit in old threads but I am interested in whether when putting an 18RG into a TA22 the front sump of the 18 R corona misses the TA22 mid mount engine cross member?

I take it that the front oil pick up would be ok too?

Anyone who knows this, your opinions would be greatly useful.
    Cheers

    Noof,

I had an 18rg in a ta22 celica once upon a time. It had a front sump on it, and it did not hit the crossmember or the sway bar. No sure if it was a corona one but most likely.

The engine does sit further forward than the 2t. ~100mm forward of the crossmember (18rg engine mounts sit ~100mm forward of the standard 2t crossmember from centre to centre.

    Thanks Roger,
Did you use custom engine mounts because as I see it I dont think that the 18RG engine mounts are going to allow the engine to sit in the right place?..
I guess it isnt too hard to have some slightly adjustable engine mounts made up?

More specifically? How did it go?

    Thanks

Noof i have a 18rg in my ta22 celica and the front bump sump is out of a rt104 also they come out of a rt114 and rt118

You need a Ra21 Crossmember you can get them from classic_celica.com or you have to fabricate/ modify you standard ta22 crossmember. The mounts need to move forward also you need a tailshaft and gearbox crossmember from a automatic ta22 celica to fit 18rg. I bought the crossmember off Toymods i put a add on parts wanted
    Hope that helped

    Thanks Rabbits,
I am looking at whether this is viable for me to do or whether I should hang out and wait for a 2TG... which is a little easier to fit?

Might be a case of whatever happens first.
    Still thanks for the info.
Was hoping to get by without modding the engine crossmember cos that is a PITA for me.
I can get all the other parts required.

You wouldnt happen to have any photos of your TA22 engine bay? Showing in particular the engine mounts? I have a design I have been thinking of but not sure?
    Cheers

Hi Noof, mate you also have to cut out a hole for the gear stick because its lower. I reckon you stick with the 2tg alot less hassle all you have to do is Exhaust everything bolts straight on
