a gazelle?
wouldnt having a 1j in a gazelle completely destroy any kind of ballance? dont u need some decent ballance to do some decent drifting??
I'm tossing up a couple options for my engine conversion..now its not to go into a toyota but it is a Toyota engine..My main reason for considering the 1jz is that I've heard they are really strong engines and quite easy to get power out of and its cheaper than an SR..Its going to be a drift car..My other option is an SR20DET..Its to go into an S12..Thanks for your help..
Cheers

Yeah..it was just an idea though..I wouldn't mind some people's opinions as well as the measurements so I can see if it would fit
i couldnt tell u numbers, but they only just fit into an ra23 engine bay, and i mean only just! like super tight sqeeze...
but anything will fit wif enough persuation...
i think, it would be cool wif a 1jz, but it might end up being more cost effective, and a better 'drift' car wif a sr20det... thats why its done...
sarr,
jase
I'll take some pics of my engine bay tomorrow and how much does a 1j weigh?

Anyone else wanna help me out or offer their opinions and information?
I would say they weigh a 'metric fu%kload'
Should see my front tyres after a day of push understeer drifting with a 1jz and soft suspension haha!
1992 MX83 Cressida Grande-1JZ-GTE...Actively Dori.
around 200kg IIRC. Do a search for engine weights, it has been covered.
You could fit a 4age in there, but not much else. A 6 would certainly be pushing it.
Have you thought about the ET pulsar engine? Small lil turbo engine that might even bolt to the gearbox.
not trying to tell you what to do, but what about building a tough CA20 bottom end with the twincam head from the CA18det and turbocharging it?
SA63-3SGTE coupe driftpig
is this car going to be street registered? if not it's just a matter of using a grinder instead of a hammer!
did you know that in canada, you could get vg30's as an option in gazelles?!
that shroud looks like it's taking up extra room, so i'd say the engine bay would be longer than an ra23/28.
i daresay a 1jz would be too tall to fit under the bonnet of an s12.
i'm putting one in a ceffy atm at my shop, and there ain't a lot of room for engine mounts, let me tell you!

yep, that's right..720mm.
it's 600mm high, sitting on the ground, from the floor to the top of the rocker cover.
