Default supra digi-dash in my celica

    Hey guys

I own an '84 sa63 celica. I went to the wreckers yesterday to grab a few parts for his holden and i came across an old supra. It had the digidash so i grabed it along with all of the wires and plugs for it.

I'm just wondering if the clusters will be the same and if not, how much trouble have i gotten myself into

    Thanks in advance

The cluster has the same mounting arrangement so it will bolt in OK, but the pinouts are completely different so it will be a long process of cutting and splicing wires to make it work.

In addition, the tacho won't work properly (6cyl vs 4cyl) and you'll need a Supra fuel level sender if you want the fuel gauge to work.

You'd better ask yourself how much you really want a shitty 80's style digidash. Having lived with one for 8 or 9 years I can tell you they're not that great.

Fuel level sender eh, where can i find that on the car? will that be on the petrol tank?

Is there a way i can MAKE the tako work?

I might need to get a copy of the electrical schimatic diagrams for the supra. could anyone help me with that? I already have one for my celica, so thats covered.

And yeah... I really want the shitty 80's style dash... its just personal taste, thats all.

    Hey brendanraymond,

I have done a couple of the digi dash conversions on the ma61 Supras & a VB Commodore.

Will be a little difficult for the 4 - 6 cyl conversion process, as the -ve coil signal will need some multiplication,
this can be done with logic gates & signal conditioning circuits. But will need to do a bit of searching on the subject.
The fuel sender is accessible from the boot.
There is a panel you can remove to get access to the top of the fuel tank, there you can unbolt the sender unit.
The wiring may differ depending on the celica model, some have extra wires for the low fuel sensor.
Personally I don’t think its worth the effort, but it may be a good learning experience

Ok, this is probably my first real crack at auto electrics... I'm more a mechanical guy, but im sure I can pull this one off...

Right, so the "-ve coil signal will need some multiplication, this can be done with logic gates & signal conditioning circuits" ok, I’m starting from close to square one... I have a very basic understanding of electronics and I’ve only done a couple of basic modules in tafe (not circuit design) so would it be possible to steer me in the right direction where I could learn how to emulate a similar circuit... don’t elcheepo ones from auto one have universal tachometers I could sconn it off? Or will I have to make it from scratch?

Has been a while since I have mucked around with logic gates n the like.
I am sure it can be done on the cheep with the right bits and some pcb design...
But a fast track way would be this kit from Jaycar.

    http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView...=&SUBCATID=347

Prolly an overkill just for a tacho adjustment, but should do the job.

Another option for the electronics is using a microchip.

You can use capture the signal in, process it, send out the 'correct' signal (the one the guage expects to see). Lots of learning if you want a good challenge....i've been at it for 3 weeks and I can trigger the speedo and read VSS pulses.

    Here is my project:
