Default mounting fixed seat to MA61/MZ10

    hi folks,

has anyone mounted a fixed seat into a MA61 or MZ10? and got pics of the install?

(note: I'm not using any adjustable rails from an existing seat - but doing something like this pic.)

I'm most of the way thru making up fixed rails to weld across from the sill to the trans tunnel - but after test fitting the seat (autotechnica thing) I've not got a huge amount of head room (maybe 100mm) and a similar gap between my head and the top of the door frame. Plus I'm still sitting fairly high in the car

Given that I'll be fitting a roll cage, I'm wondering whether there will be enough room from head/helmet to roof/door.

Beneath the driver's seat, the floor lifts up to make space for the cat and exhaust system.

I'll post some pics later in the week, but am curious as to how other folks have solved this problem.

    ta,
    Charles

Well, your pic looks quite unlike aftermarket side-mounts. Aftermarket sidemount brackets don't have the horizontal bars - they are just side bracket that allow the seat to be quite low. I don't think the way you have it gains any depth over bottom-mount trails.

Ok, what I said isn't strictly true - some sidemount rails DO have the bars - but a lot don't. Here's a random site with handy pics:

if i was to use something like the Bride FX seat rail, i'd have to use the existing seat mounts which - for my seat - would be too far forward and notclose enough to the centre of the car.

I''ll post some pics in a few minutes.

    More info:

I'm doing this to the soarer in the hope that I can go club level rallying with it or autokhana it ... and then transfer the experience and unbroken bits to the MA61 later on.

this is version 1 (which i'm abandoning) - the cross pieces are 30mm RHS galv (lots of fun to weld) and you fit bolts from underneath into the seat rails.

I'm removed the ducting that used to feed warm air to the rear passenger's feet (with an unsafe angle grinder and a blunt cold chisel )

and will redo the cross-pieces in 25mm milt steel RHS and mount them lower and rotated so the seat tilts back a bit
