    Default ebay intercoolers

would a 600x300x75mm hybrid spec ebay intercooler be effective for 500 rwhp?
it has 3" inlet and outlet and is bar and plate construction.

i know efficiency is one thing but not sure how they stack up flow wise. are they known to be restrictive?

should i step up to a 100mm thick one?

its for my drift car which is bound to get smashed up at some stage so dont really want to put anything of worth in prime position to damage.

    cheers

    I'd go 100mm.

I'm making 350rwkw on a 76mm one, but I reckon I'm close to the point where it should be bigger

sorry, i meant.. if you put on a cheap intercooler just because you will fuck it anyway, and then run too high inlet temps and blow the motor... then it becomes an expensive intercooler

bigger = better = more heatsink and more surface area.

or buy a better design (specifically the core inlets etc) and not crash?

    no

just in your case, why even consider the smaller one?

you should connect a manometer across your intercooler and see what the pressure drop is. would also be good if you could measure the temperature drop across it.

it would be interesting to see how this size goes as most people are running the 76mm version

already had a 76mm one which i just did the cooler pipes for.

however a ebay 100mm would be a direct swap shall i decide to now before i start making up radiator/intercooler ducting.

im assuming the 100mm would have greater pressure drop?

why would the wider core have more pressure drop? oh for the air coming in? slightly...
but if you are not stopping air from getting between the radiator and IC from the side, it makes little diffrence..

why not just try the 76mm, and when you smash it, swap to the 100mm one.. not like there is a huge amount of difference in ducting between the two?

going to get it tuned up on race fuel - something id prefer to do once, rather then finding out mid tune that the 76mm wasnt up to the task and was restrcting power.

but thats more then likely what ill be doing

(the car is off to the drag strip to run a number before it sees any more drifting)
