they are confusing it with the hilux gearboxes which are similar to W58's
there is such a huge market for hiluxes around the world that there are china copies of the RZ engines and gearboxes.
as for the quality of either, i have no idea.
Just came accross this. wondering if anyone has heard of them??

"Beware of China copy of Toyota Supra W58
China copy would climb a mountain in 1st gear, not ideal for fast takeoffs. Bearings are stamped NSK brand but NSK rep states they are poor copies. Speedo cable hole doesn't fit Toyota cable."
I'm wondering if they're getting confused with a W55, ratio wise. But the bearings & speedo cable bit seems odd.
No, I don't think i have one. Just curious as to whether they exist!
Cheers

- ma61 + 2jz-gte + v160 + 3.5 torsen
never ever heard of a w58 china copy.
I reckon you're right - they're getting confused with another W box
G52 maybe, from the hilux? or as you said, w55 which is almost as bad
W58 3.285 - 1.894 - 1.275 - 1 - 0.783
G52 3.93 - 2.33 - 1.91 - 1 - 0.83
W55 3.566 - 2.056 - 1.384 - 1 - 0.850
There was a seller selling brand new w58's and the pic looked like a w58, for $880. I suspect they were chinese copies.
Well there you go, sounds about right. Whether its the G / W, some people will do anything for a quick buck.
I can understand with wastegates, bovs & what not. Low tech & price.
Gearboxes.. surely that's overstepping the mark!
Now does anyone know who I can contact about getting some chinese copy LS1's?![]()
if this is the ebay ones your talking about? they are 100% rebuilt boxesOriginally Posted by af300e
my mate has one behind a sc14 202 red top. and not a single problem 6+ months down the track, so the quality must be there
Yup that's the one. If it's good for $880 it's a bargain for an as new box. If it's rebuilt it's probably better than a brand new Chinese one.Originally Posted by yoshimitsu9
rebuilt as in new synchros, seals and bearings? gears and shafts?
100% rebuilt has many shades of meaning![]()

Probably reconditioned with the requirement of giving them your old one.
If this is the case then they just replace whats overly warn ie synchros and bearings.

These are brand new Chinese copy W series gearboxes. The rarios are very low though, will list tomorrow. Have not had any trouble at all with them but mostly just standard replacements as noone seems to be interested in putting a lot of HP through them![]()
