turn the engine off
I'm trying to figure out what the part 22230-35010 on a 22RE engine is for.
I've searched for it and found some results with people looking for one and saying it's an Auxillary Air Valve but that doesn't really help me.
I would like to know what this part is for and if it is really needed. I'm trying to remove all my emissions.

more seriously, why are you trying to remove the emission control equipment?

The auxilliary air valve is used to raise the idle when the engine is cold. You should keep it.

1. There is so much of it that there isn't much room to put my hands in do to basic tasks like changing the oil filter.Originally Posted by SeptemberSquall
2. When I started pulling it off, I found that most of it was so clogged with carbon that I had trouble sticking a matchstick in holes that should be big enough to stick a pen or something even bigger in.
3. I'm sure that most of it doesn't even do anything anymore (most likely due to reason #2)
4. A heap of it is cast iron. I reckon I'm going to save about 10-15KG of weight by the time I get it all off. There is a massive support coming off of the engine mount just to hold it all.
i dont think johnny the long arm of the law will accept any of those excuses should you get defected for anything.
As they say in the book, assembly is the reverse of dismantling, but slower cos you forgot where all the bits are
Looking at a 22RE or 5ME of that era i doubt Johnny Longarm will even know what the hell he is looking at. I sure dont, and im supposed to know stuff.
