If we are talking hydro water pump and you undid the 4, 14 mm head bolts at the front it buggers up the seal a bit and should be replaced .

the 3 complete flushes were done without the rad cap so thats good. it appears to have sealed after just the first flush which i didnt even get to properly warm the motor.

it is the hydro pump but no i didnt try to seperate the hydro housing from the waterpump housing.

    thanks Coffmeister.

To me it's the friction without the coolant lubeing it and I don't think the heat has any effect on it at all.

Keep an eye on it because coolant ( glycol ) has a capillary action to it & will sometimes cause it to leak again if its not 100 % leak free, but if it does just do the pellets as i mentioned & pretty sure it will be fine then ....

The hole is so water doesnt get into the bearing and:
    1. Push the pulley off the shaft
    2. Make the bearing seize.

Old thread revival, but I need to know if the pellets from Holden don't work is there anyway of repairing the old seal if the pump assy comes off the motor, or is it just throw away and get a new one? I have a JZX90 motor and it has the hydro fan setup as well so the waterpump is $400+ from Toyota. Anyone repaired one? (no i don't want to switch to thermo fans and get a 2J waterpump, I like the Hydro fan).

I know this is a thread dig but i'd might as well reply to say that yes, this has happened to me (albeit on a dirty holden v8) - just replaced the pump

Not that simple as the waterpump with Hydrofan incl is over $1500 apparently from Toyota after some more searching, I could get a whole motor for less than that!!
