Default hydraulic handbrake cylinder sizing woes?

    hey guys,

just spent most of my day today cutting/flaring/routing brake lines for my celica.

its just your basic hydraulic handbrake system that you hook in line with the rear brakes,

the cylinder on the handbrake is a 3/4 bore size, the brake lines are just the standar 5/16 and they are running to volvo twin piston calipers on the 240 diff,

yet for the rear wheels to lock it takes avery effort in one arm to make it lock up, only 215/40/17 tyres on the rear aswell,

what can i do to make it lock with alot less effort?

    same as this sucker here

Put a 5/8" maso in there. and is the cyl in the same orientation as the pic? make sure its mounted upright.

    Brake lines should be 3/16"

    cheers

longer lever would help. Longer the better really.

lever is long enough....same as most others out there,

master is mounted upward with the lines running up from the cylinder then down through the floor....

so you reckon a 5/8 cylinder will make it easier.....im clueless

yep, use a 5/8 maso and it will be sweet.

I have 1 here if you want to test it out before you purchase one, but it runs a 7/16 inlet and 3/8 outlet so make sure yours isn't metric otherwise it wont fit.

    cheers

Oh, whats the lever ratio? and how much stroke does the maso have before you cant pull it any further?

As Linden noted, get a 5/8" master.

My h/brake is a different brand to yours Blake and came with a 5/8" master cylinder standard, locks the rear end with no effort at all in the dry on semi slicks.

    Makes parking a spectacular breeze

Looking like less of a punter at motorkhanas

Making a stylish entrance when you park the car

    Impressing your mates

Having a handbrake that would actually slow you down if required compared to the cable jobbie and it's lack lustre performance.

Seriously though I only fitted mine for khanas, my old HB couldn't have locked the wheels on an ice covered road it was that shit*.

*No amount of adjustment was going to improve it.

suposedly locks the rear wheels with very little effort.....works of the rear hydraulic brake system.......better then a stretched/worn/mechanical handbrake that hardly locks the rear wheels,

tho these are ilegal for street use, unless you still have the original mechanical handbrake still hooked up

    edit, mega delay post
