Ball bearing T25G?

Is there an ID tag on the core? If so, what part numbers does it have?

Or just chuck up some pics of the tag & general turbo shots

If it really is ball bearing, then I wouldn't expect it to be too tight, even if dry of oil

A conventional "bush" bearing style turbo however will not necessarily spin freely without a fresh supply of oil.

I just dumped a whole heap of wd40, it losend up a bit but still tight compared to my ct12. I think till take the comp housing off as i need to rotate it anyway, so I can clean up all the coking that will be there and it may losen it up some more.

Could just be build up of carbon - have u got access to a compressor? If it rotates freely with your hand and if u push radially against the shaft it should spin feely - without sticking / grinding. u should be able to feel anthing that's seriously wrong.

yeah i have a compressor, my mate has it currently Ill have to get it back.

Push on the compressor wheel and rotate it? what will that do?

push at 90 degees to the shaft and onto bush / bearings, and rotate - u will feel any grinding or stiff spots highlighting issues with the bush / bearing. If it rotates and feels smooth i'd be pretty happy to put it in.

If you had a fked one you would be able to tell the difference. just a suggestion mate.

This is the ID tag that should have the part numbers:




If the turbo is a T25G from an S13 SR20 engine, then it is not ball bearing, and what you have found is fine, provided the shaft play is within spec.

I didnt see any ID tag like that I'll recheck when I get home today.

I've found the best thing to remove burnt oil and crap is petrol or a spray can of carby cleaner. Not sure what affect that will have on your seals though. It works a dream on ISCV's and the like.

Out of curiosity, did the seller describe it as "mint condition"?

Cos it seems that mint no longer desribes an absolutely flawless example of a car/part/engine, more something that hasn't *quite* fallen apart yet, but has been given a quick wipe with a rag so that a two year old can point and say "shiney"

It was thusly described which fucking shits me. It also has a broken exhaust housing stud which while its not the end of the world its a PITA.

Ill have a play around with it this weekend ;-)

Hi guys,
As robbed from other sites while doing some research of my own a few weeks back...


Ball bearing T28 (or T25g as often referred to) from the S14 or S15 have one of the following part numbers on the plate:
14411-69F00
14411-82F01
14411-91F00

Bush Bearing S14 or S15 turbo's have this part number:
14411-75F00

The S13 SR20 was delivered with the following part number:
14411-50F00
(my own research seemed to indicate it is a T25 bush bearing unit)

I have a T25g (or T28) from an S14 SR20 and by the above it is a bush bearing example as delivered within Australia.
Apparently jap spec items are ball bearing examples.

Although mine was advertised as a ball bearing turbo (not on this site) I paid reasonable money for a reasonable turbo and care factor is not too high as it is only going on my one-day-to-be-started TA23 3T blow through turbo project.
