Looking into putting a stereo into a mates 1998 Camry.
His mechanic has told him that the factory stereo is connected to the cars security system and that removing the stereo disables the actual car (WTF???). makes no sense to me...
This is what he tells me... but it think his wires might be crossed.
I am aware that the head units need to have the code re-entered.... but in this case the factory unit is coming out and going in the bin.
Just wondering if there is any truth to the fact that stereo tampering will immobilise the car... sounds stupid to me..
My mate knows absolutly nothing about cars...
Last time I talked him into doing his own oil change... He dropped his gearbox oil and put and extra 4 litres oil into his engine. Wondered why his car was blowing smoke and not changing gears....!
I just hate to see him get ripped off if what his mechanic is telling him is BS. and i 'd rather do his install cause I know I would do it properly.

Could be true, a lot of newer cars have this feature to prevent radio theft and/or parting out. PM Gavatron, he works at a Toyota dealer, he should set you straight.
