    Default ra23 bonnet with 1uz

so I put the bonnet back on the ra23 today to see if it would fit on the 1uz

and the bonnet reinforcement is hitting the front of the plenum.

Short of dropping the cross member FURTHER or getting a modified plenum, all i can see to get done is to chop the reinforcing out of the bonnet and then put some thin strong bits back in to hold it together.

Is this what people have done and/or would recommend?

I can't recall the details exactly but the 1G Sprinter I had, had clearance issues, may not be as bad as yours, but the actual rib part of the reinforcing (not the flat) was cut and removed then filled in with smaller parts to make it an indent ans more factory like.

Whilst yes it does change the strength of the bonnet (from an engineering standpoint) the effect is more like adding another point of flecture (crumple zone) in the bonnet.

I'd keep away from having to do it through every rib if possible.

    Cheers

    hi strad

what i have done in the past is cut out the sectiom that is required , turn it upside down and re weld in place and then trim the sides for clearance

Think I'll have you do that for me too Ian. :-)

    Got your call before mate.

The stuff is in a plastic bag at the front door. Feel free to come get it any time. I probably won't be home.

You know where the celica is, the bonnet is on, but feel free to lift it and have a look, I'm sure you know how to. :-)

Thumbs up Re: ra23 bonnet with 1uz

    hi strad
    thanks for the goodies
i had a quick sticky at your car
it looks goos with the 1uzfe
so who needs a bonnett , problem solved
you can lower the engine mounts a little, just so the sump sits a little of the rack
    section the the plenum chamber
machine the top of the runners
angle the throttle body down all this would give an extra couple of inches
[now wouldnt we all like to have an extra couple of inches ]
do all this and you wont have to modify the bonnett
its a nice fit , looks like it should have been there in the first place
    post up some piccys

Hahah. As much as I would like too, that's a little more than I was going for TurboRG.. :-)

Ian: Can't lower the engine anymore, the sump is already 'just off the rack' (or perhaps on it.)

So the plenum modding seems the go.

Also, I didn't think I was hitting on the TB?

    yeah, I've modified the sump.

It's a ke70 cross member and steering rack. Perhaps that's the difference? The sump is ground back and sits very close to the rack.

Clearly, you've moved this along since that day in January. I need to pedal around there again and have a sticky beak.
