Exclamation URGENT Removing 4Axx Oil Pump

    Hi Guys

We over tighted one of the bolts and the head came off, we are using stud removers to get it out but it broke off. We need to get the pump off so we can get a better look at the stuck bolt.

We removed all the bolts and I think we are stuck on the strainer, is there a technique to get it off without removing the sump pan?

If we need to remove the sump pan, is there a way to get off without removing the engine??

Any help appreciated, and urgently needed, thanks so much

    Mike

you need to get the sump off, there is no other way the pickup is bolted to it.
try welding a nut to the stud (build it up untill it meets the nut).

if its a fwd the sump will come off easy, if its in a rwd (ae/ke) i cant remember if you have the room to drop the sump past the strainer and slide it out.
i dont have a funny or cool signature.

Unfortunately you cant' pull the oil pump off without taking the sump off to unbolt the pickup from the bottom of the pump.

You can probably remove the sump pan whilst the engine is still in car, you can certainly do it in an AE86 or AE71, but they are both RWD. If its a front wheel drive you may find that cross members get in the way. But I basically hammered a paint scraper through the seal around most of the sump, then it pulled straight off.
I want to do your engine conversion wiring for you, PM me.

Mine is a RWD, in a KE

Not sure how to get the pan off though, I guess a lot of time with a spanner and off it comes eventually, there are a s#!t load of bolts that hold it on.

It just does not look easy to do, that is to remove the pan that is, can you break down further on how to achieve it?

remove all bolts. tap each side with rubber mallet, then use paint scraper to get right in there. it may look hard but it's easier than you think.

you may need to raise the engine off the mounts to be able to drop the sump far enough too.

It is possible to remove the sump without moving the engine off its mounts... however is rather a pain, there isn't a whole lot of room to move (assuming you're using an AE71 crossmember). You will also need to remove the gearbox supports which bolt onto the engine block.

    Thanks Guys

There is tones of room, took off lower gearbox mounts, and was able to fit a ratchet in there no issues and off it came, much easier than I expected, I feared I would have to take out the engine, relief over here.

    Again Thanks
