Thanks for organising a great day Garth. Even better I did not break anything for the cars first time on the road in over 4 years.

Can you provide more details on the 'mobile phone' timing device that you were using. More specifically the details on the GPS that you were using.

Home safely, GT4 is filthy after been towed over wet dirt roads on the way home

quite impressed to have that nut shear, no matter, still had a good day, first flying lap been a 1:15.9 blew me away, haven't been anywhere near that for a long time!

    The GPS timing gear:

    Go here to download it

Go here to see a list of phones that it works with

And you need a GPS like this one.

5hz GPS is the best for lap timing, searching ebay for 5hz GPS will bring them up, but generally have to search the item description as well the title.

Also have a look at the news tab on the race chrono sight...some very VERY interesting looking video about the new version coming out in the nearish future.

Thank you for organising the day Garth.

It has been over a year since I was last out and it was good to go fast again. This time I had some confidence in my tyres and it showed in the times. By hand timing the best I got was 1:16.2 when I realised I had forgot to setup my GoPro.

for my last three runs I have the GoPro setup but I must ave bumped my car onto low boost for two of those and only had 1:19 (pretty consistently ) recorded. For the last one, I noticed the boost switch so turned it back up and got a few 1:17's so that gave me some confidence in my hand timed 1:16

Out of curiosity, I'm wondering what people's lines are through turns 1 - 3?

I was going pretty much flat out through the kink, braking to the outside for turn 2, apex it & drift out wide, which meant I could head straight for the inside of the track ready for turn 3.

I was catching a lot of people under brakes, and sometimes getting baulked because I was braking later & turning in a bit earlier to straighten turn 2 out.

Also wondering about the hairpin onto the main straight. Is it a brake late & have a late apex corner (which meant I often didn't use the full track apron width onto the straight), or something different?

When Justen sorts out the gopro footage, have a look at Mike's line through the corner in my car.. very late apex

yeah, I was going to say that most people take a line closer to the middle of the track after the kink (still to the left but not too far out) and hit a late apex on turn 2.

last turn definetly a late apex.

2nd turn i cant quite do much about though.

I always come in pretty hot however i end up on the inside of the exit instead of the outside.....

yep, very late apex on the final turn also.

I judge it by hitting the apex on the bit of curbing before where the little service/cut through road rejoins, but back on the gas well before this point.

Wakefield Park is all about trail braking to you are going to be hitting the apexes late anyway trying to keep the speed off the corners.

Last corner is a late apex, trying to get on the gas earlier = more speed on the straight.

with the GT4 I was taking the the kink flat about 150kph and there was a stripe in the road surface that I was using as a braking marker (might have been a little late in hindsight) and then brake in a straight line to the outside. This seemed to open up turn two and I was on the gas early and accelerating up the hill. If i braked earlier, i didn't seem to get wide enough on the entrance and I would always be tight on the exit of the corner.

Turn three is fairly separate to turn two isn't it? I would have thought you would be trying to link turn 3 with 4-5-6-7 to the fish hook?

We should have organised ourselves a little more and tried to follow each other round, both being turbo 4wd's

hehe I tried the down change on the uphill between 3 and 4 once to carry more pace though turn 3... I ended up pointing the wrong way and heading backwards up the hill towards the hillclimb track.

I downchange between the 3rd and 4th corners as, if i change down before the 3rd im on the limiter and i dont have enough power to pull 3rd gear through. Also changing down to second unsettles the rear on turn in to 4 which combats the slight understeer i had .

In answer to the other questions, with my little power i was still well in the throttle to quite a way after the kink, then braking hard aiming for the left of the track, turn in throttle on hit the ripple strip and run wide out to the left again..

Similar with the final turn but i carry the braking a little longer in the final turn which tucks the nose in a little more then again let it run out wide to the left..
