Yeah you could do that, or you could just use higher offset wheels to compensate for the wider diff and then you won't have to modify the body.
Good luck finding an RA25 diff though...
this may be a bit of a stupid question, but if anything i'll learn something but say a ke25 diff is around 1320mm wide (i'm not 100% positive thats right but it should be close) and the RA25 F series diff is 1365 could i just get some flares and bobs your aunty? if not what am i not taking into consideration?

I though engineers were fairly picky about the track width on diff conversions (in NSW at least). 20mm total gain was the max. Of course, you could just paint up the bracket welds and say it's standard

Wheels with ~20mm higher offset = no change in track width. Too easy.

the wording of the code of practice relate to the original width of the axle component, or it's new shortened width. the point being, you can't run massive dish rims which increase the load on bearings..Originally Posted by Big T
in my consultations, certain diffs, like G series and ford 9", are know to be very strong, and so the actual allowable wheel and track widths have some leeway...
but using a wider diff in a smaller car to increase track.. according to the code of practie, and the new draft regs, should be allowable![]()

Anyhow.. I measured my Volvo axle 1385mm wide.
And it's fairly easy to mod for 4x114.3mm bolt pattern like i did.
Read this volvo axle topic: http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1362
And pick of my axle under "Flame" with 25mm spacers:

as already said, MX13 diff and RA40GT and **possibly** even a RA60GT if they existed and had a F series diff. all these diffs are 1410 wideOriginally Posted by oldcorollas
as far as i know, RA40 diffs bolt into the AE86 with only having to modify the length of the panhard rod. turbo_RA28 has done this with his AE86.
the MX13 diff has completely different mounts so you'd need to use RA40/AE86 ones.
in regards to the strength of T series diffs, i havent yet had an issue with mine![]()
As OmanRA23 can verify i usually drive the RA40 to its full potential![]()
that includes 12 passes down the 1/4, one track day, and various street shananigans (compression lockups are fun)
the diff has oodles of backlash but its still hanging in there like a champ!!
hello
draaaaaging this up from the dead...... (and to recap?)
and looking at Norbies excellent diff thingamajig
http://www.norbie.net/ToyotaAxle/
RA40 is T series, as is T18, and they both go in easy... can they take 300Nm?
i assume both of these are relatively easy to get? (until the spoontah boys break them all)
for F series, MX13 and MA47 are both correct width.... are these still around? hard to find?
how different is the Y22 F series compared to the other two? (assuming most mounts would need to be changed anyways..)
can the MS110/112 axles be cut down 20mm to be put into one of the above housings?? or is it better to start with a disc'd rear (wider bearings?)
are MS110/112 diffs available or made of unobtanium??
thinking of ae86-esque setup for rear discs and around 300Nm.... oh and LSD is required.
should i be looking around here instead of Aus?

Hey Stew,
The YR22 Tarago F-series is actually 1450 across so its a bit too wide... sourcing FWD wheel offsets would probably get around it though.
When i went diff hunting i was lucky enough to find a wrecked MX13 complete diff at pickies. There was only one MS112 there and it had already been stripped of the diff.

Not if you want it to be reliable long-term, no.Originally Posted by oldcorollas

Cutting axles is expensive and should be avoided. If there's only 20mm to be removed you'd be better off getting wheels with an extra 10mm offset for the same effect.Originally Posted by oldcorollas
