    Default Intercooler

Gettin a new FMIC installed hopefully next weekend.
I own a ST185 with the standard GT4 front bar.
What size cooler can i install that will adequately cool the air, and not cause to much lag.
Problem is there is such lil room in the GT4 front bar to install a decent sized cooler.
As this is the case ive been think of a 550x180x65 or 550x140x65,as these seem to be some of the smallest, and should fit.Now to my other problem, will these cool the air enough?
Any one that has had a cooler installed in the standard gt4 front bar, your help would be appreciated.
    Thanx

p.s i have tried contacting wyldie on Ozcelica with no luck, does n e one have his email??

I don't know a lot about these cars, so whatever I say should be taken with a grain of salt, but generally I think that would be heaps. Other information like your planned turbo setup would help too. If you're just running stocky turbo and a bit of extra boost, that will be heaps. Remember it's still going to be twice the size of the stock cooler, and mounted in a much better position.

so i dont wanna upgrade cooler again once i get new turbo, i want something that will be fine with both of em

coolers really don't add a noticable amount of lag to a turbo setup. match your Ic pipes with your turbo outlet/TB. size of cooler really depends on how much boost you're running, but generally speaking, all other things equal, bigger is better - mainly because IC size is primarily limited by the distance between your bumper supports

yea the thing is i dont think the standard front bar can hold a very big cooler.
Been callin around for prices and im gettin quoted like $1800 installed. seems abit excessive.
and ive been told the biggest u can fit is 660x160x90, but cant seem to find any coolers that size.
all i can find is 550x140x65 or 550x180x65. Obviously the 180 one wont fit so it only leaves the 140 cooler. Now the shit thing is i dunno if the 140 cooler will be ok once i get the new turbo installed and increase the boost.

That's still a fairly long cooler, must be at least twice the size of the stocky one. It'll flow heaps, but if you can, make sure you get end tanks to suit your desired plumbing size, as changing diam really stuffs air flow. I guess if your heart is set on something bigger, you'll need a new front bar, or need to cut things out from behind it. Just don't cut the bottom lip off your bar, because it totally destroys the airflow to your cooler. (the air is then pushed under the cooler, because it's the path of least resistance)

yea ive seen fools cut there bottom lip off, i dont know that much bout cars, but even i know thats a fcked up thing to do.simple physics. The inlet/oulets are only 2". Size doesnt really bother me to much, as long as the cooler will be ok with both turbo's im happy!

Intercoolers are a good thing dont get me wrong, but there are a few systems out there that can help alot aswel, I know of a guy with a race car that has removed his intercooler completely to see if the water injection will do the trick just aswel, On the dyno it seems to have worked quite well we are going to a race meeting soon to see what happends. He ran water injection on the car with the intercooler previously with great success, it actually made alot more HP when he first fitted it. Check this link for details www.full-throttle.com.au check it out for yourselves, veru cool stuff
