    Default Steering wheel airbag removal

    Hi All

Can anyone tell me if/how I can remove an undeployed airbag from a steering wheel without destroying the steering wheel or killing myself?

To remove the airbag equipped steering wheel on the AE111, we simply disconnected the battery, and removed the air bag fuse, then turned the key to start to dissipate any residual current in the cars circuitry. It was then a simple matter of removing the screws from the back of the steering wheel spokes and removing the bag.

CAUTION When storing the undeployed airbag, ensure that the bag is placed on a flat bench with the operating (deployment side) facing upwards. If the bag then deploys it will not throw the back section through the roof/or into your face.

    cheers Chuck.

Duct tape a pillow to your face, cut eye holes in it so you can see... then get to work without a care in the world. If it goes off, meh!

Changed my steering wheel over the weekend from the Supra, disconnected negative terminal and waited 20 mins (apparently only need to wait 10), 2 panels that pop out from either side of the steering wheel then unscrewed (not sure what they're called - looks like a ninja star head on it) on either side and simply genly push the airbag part towards you (should pop out with almost no resistance), then disconnected the plug to the cockspring for the airbag and the plug for the horn.

Follow these instructions and you wont have a problem. Just take care and be sensible with handleing and storing it once it is out of the car.

Why the hell would you remove an airbag equipped steering wheel for some aftermarket POS? Seems a stupid thing to do unless it's a racecar or something.

He is parting out his JZX100 Chaser because he didnt get import approval for it - doesnt want to damage the airbag/wheel so it can be sold to someone in need.

Cheers Zop. I gather Slim was referring to Hamgatan's link.

And to correct: I did get import approval for it (twice actually) but it failed compliance.
