The adjuster self adjusts (if it needs to) more or less every time you pull the handbrake on.
You sure it's not a brake shoe installed backwards?
How sure are you that the shoes are not in need of replacement?
So, about a month ago (maybe 2) tehre was an irritating scrubbing noise coming from my left-rear wheel. after pulling the wheel and brake disc off, it was eventually discovered that it was the internal handbrake drum very lightly scrubbing. Quick turn of the adjustment and it went away.
Fast forward to the last week, and it's back with a vengance. I know I can just adjust it again, but since I have bugger-all knowledge about the precise working of the inner drum, can anyone suggest what might be causing this? would locktite-ing the adjustment screw work? (using the weakest locktite in existance of course)? I'm assuming the handbrake cable won't be to blame, as if it had come loose it would stay off, not on.. and I can't see how my handbrake cable could have tightened itself?
Advice welcome!

it's *not* a brake shoe in backwards.. I only do that to disc pads(plus then problem only occurred 2 months ago, and the shoes haven't been done)
Would a worn shoe cause fouling with handbrake off? If so, this could be the problem since I'd guess the shoes have never been replaced.
pull it, clean and re-gease everything
wheel bearing in good cond?...as free play in bearing can affect brakes.
