    Default ae82 stalling

    hey boys and girls.
got an ae82 twinky, with 7-rib big port 16v.

Whenever the car has been given a good hiding, ive noticed that it tends to stall afterwards, normally under brakes at low speeds (luckily). Its not violent, half the time i dont even noticed its happened until i realize i have no power steering, and normally its when my foot is on the clutch.

The acception to the rule was the other night, when i was giving the car a right proper thrashing through the hills. I was as though i was just losing the power steering momentarily as i brought the wheel back to to centre.

however, i noticed on the way home under semi-normal driving conditions that it quickly stalled and kicked back in again mid corner. The loss of power steering felt the same as i was getting in the hills.

any ideas on what this could be? i vacuum leak possibly? another thing to mention is that im guessing one of the previous owners was a complete tard when it came to wiring (the stereo job was terrible), and that it seems that he was put a kill-switch in, maybe dodgy wiring has something to do with it??

any help would be greatly appreciated

may car has the same problem, i have the same car and same engine... i took it to my local mechanic to see if he could fix it but he was unable to fault it.

what worked for me was turning up the idle to around 1150rpm.. this HELPS but doesnt solve the problem so if anyone out there knows how to fix chris_85 and my problem, do tell!

    cheers

I would think that it would be your idle control motor on solenoid.

These are located near the throttle body ( i think, not sure on ae82). Well, they have vacumn lines that go from either side of teh throttle butterfly anyways.

if this is isnt working correctly then when the throttle is snapped close the motor cant comlensate quick enough and the revs srop right down..

The powersteering would also effect it cause you are putting extra load on the engine without increasing the RPM. cause the engine to struggle. Without the assistance of the idle control motor opening, the engine stalls.

Remove the idle motor and give it a clean out with carby clean, also clean the ports on the throttle body. refit it and see how you go. you will have to reset that idle screw too

    Hope this helps

try changing the ignitor also... they can cause momentary faults.. esp when they are hot..
