    Question hilux electrical problems.

i have a '91 hilux with a 22r and the headlight relay for the high beem is stuffed a couple of months after i replaced it, so when i turn on the high beem the lights go realy dim first, less light than low beem. Is somthing bigger the problem? and my dash gauges fuse is blowing, im not sure the prosess of elimination of solving these problems. could the whole electrical system be failing to pieces? any help would be great,

don't suppose you have put a stereo in it or something recently?

checked your voltage (multimeter across + and - when the car is running)

nah, if you hook up the earth to the dash light wires it will blow the fuse when you turn the lights on..

You must have a short circuit somewhere on that line.

I am not familiar with that loom, so I am not surewhere you should start looking. You could take it to an Auto elec. Or get your self a good multimetre, and a wiring diagram and have a go at working it out yourself.

Its a process of elimination. Disconnect everything but the line that goes to your dash lights. If the fuse blows you know that its a probem on that line. Trace it in the engine bay and look for wire sheething touching hot parts of the car. Look for wearing of the wire sheething on the body.

I know it will be a bitch. If your not handy with wires. The Auto elec may be a bettter option.

    Gl with it.

i wired a globe to the blown fuse to locate the short when i pluged it in all the dash gauges are fixed but the fuel gauge reads full when it is half full. and the globe doesnt glow. then when reverce is selected the globe glows and the dash gives a correct reading.
also the reverce lights are not coming on.

is this a earth problem? if so where to i find the earth points throughout the car.

headlight switch. If you pull it to flash and it works fine but does not work fine when pushing away to high then thats it
