    Default rep vs marketplace

OK, well this may not look good coming from me right now as I just recently got neg rep'd to death for fun cause I made a mistake and begged for rep in my signature lol....

    But anyways....

On this new highly weeded out forum. There is requirements involving rep etc to post in the marketplace (cant remember the exact requirements off top of my head)....
This was pu tin place to stop someone signing up simply to sell their stuff, using the forum as a sale whore.

However are we not just depriving ourselves?
The more things on offer, the more things to choose from?
I use to love going through the masses of items for sale.
There might be a few people here and there that have something to hock off that is nice, and would do it for a good price too....... or something real rare. But cant advertise it here because they do not fulful the requirments...
They maybe a skyline or rotor head and it may not be worth their while sticking around to build up their rep just to place it on the toymods marketplace, and can and do get a sale just as easy on another forum.... and we, who never know it is for sale miss out.

The number of people trying to scam and make a quick buck compared to all the 2nd hand gems that I found.. were significantly smaller.

    Anyone have this view?
I guess it saves me money as I am pretty broke anyways, but makes me abit unhappy not having new toys.

the new sig is much shorter (and no, i didn't neg rep you ) but i think you will find if you looked that this topic has been covered a number of times.

this forum, provided by the TOYMODS car club, is a technical forum. it is not a free market place. well.. it's free... but not a "free for all"

there is a classified section for the TOYMODS MEMBERS to sell their things, and also for those people who contribute to the forums positively.
    anyone can buy from there.

you can always sign up to these rotor and skyline forums and buy things there if you want

This was pu tin place to stop someone signing up simply to sell their stuff, using the forum as a sale whore
They maybe a skyline or rotor head and it may not be worth their while sticking around to build up their rep just to place it on the toymods marketplace
ok.. so whats the problem here?

you know.. as a toymods car club member, you can advertise your parts in the classified section... or are you concernd that you have less choice of parts? may i recommend the trading post, ebay, yahoo auctions and every other internet forum and classifieds, as well as every importer, as places to buy cheap stuff

    edit:
The number of people trying to scam and make a quick buck compared to all the 2nd hand gems that I found.. were significantly smaller.
so..... how many scammers should we allow? what ratio of good sellers to scammers do you think will work here?

    Yay, another thread on rep...

    Ok, how about this.
These forums are still in their EARLY stages.
As time goes on, and as the rep of general people gets higher, more and more people will be able to dish out lots of rep, and it won't take as long before ye can sell stuff.

For instance. When the forum started, we were all only giving out +1 every time.
So you'd have to get 20 votes before you are up to priveledge status.
Now people like me and Stu are giving out +5 every time, and so you only need 4 good posts to gain the status.

As time goes on, and more and more people gain high rep, you could only be on the forums for a matter of days before you gain status, providing you have the correct attitude.

Why is your rep on 0 man?It was on 1 30 mins ago when I checked this thread,if your getting neg repped for speaking up about stuff then thats not on in my opinion..

As for what you have brought up id have to somewhat agree,

While toymods is a great technical forum it has also been a great resourse for buying and selling parts. Some people will probably see this post from me and go no shit, asif riceburna isnt going to have a problem he was always selling stuff, well yes it does suit me to have a bigger marketplace but my point is,im still learning to do most things with cars but my neich is tracking stuff down and getting rare shit. The buying and selling of these items has enabled me to build my car and also help people build theirs and I have met a heap of people because of my trading of parts.I guess what im trying to say is not all of us can bring a technical boost to this forum, some of us are just funny buggers or trying to learn about cars, and alot of these people have a treasure trove of parts stashed away or junk that is someone elses long lost last remaining piece to the puzzle.

Anyways I havent really said anything in the past cause I think the new forum need s to have its time before anything changes.I hope we can find a balance between letting wookies sell shit and needing a fair bit of rep before you can sell, maybe a referal based system eg someone I had dealt with alot on the old forum but hasnt got the rep can have me sponsor him to sell stuff therefor putting my rep on the line if they are rippoffs,I dont know but it is a shame to have bugger all FS especially when im still after seats, elec boost controller, intercooler, brakes etc

    cheers

he most likely got neg repped for 3 things I've seen in the past day
he started 2 threads (this is the third) that have been covered ad nauseum, when a simple search would have yielded all his answer. and he was asking for rep in his sig, which is a good way to lose it.

And no, I didn't neg rep you either (I figured you'd suffered enough for your crimes)

My only concern about the whole rep thing is that people aren't giving it out for good posts - if you read something that you like you should give it rep.

Other than that it is certainly cutting a lot of crap out of the forums - I like it

ok. so ive been a member of this forum since the start. and a member of the old one for about 2 years...

read it just about everyday.. have found heaps of interesting articles, and alot of ppl have helped me out with some probs i had wit my soarer.

but just beacause im not a financial member or i havnt got enough rep points, im not aloud to use the classifieds?? sorry, but i dont agree.

i thought these forums where for toyota lovers, for them to share info/stories and cars!!

i know what u mean about ppl just using them to sell stuff. but maybe set up some sort of 'cooling off period' where they cant sell till they been a member for 3 months??

cause this is the best place to sell/buy toyota parts... just cause i dont post everyday... and im not a brainiac when it comes to cars. im not aloud to use them???

What happened to the good old days..... Bring back the old forum i say!!

    cheers

everyone is entitled to their opinion, and thats ok

however, the forum is set up, run and paid for by the Toymods Car Club, so it is the opinion of the board and the members as to what happens with the forum.

the opinion seems to be that it is better that the forum remain relatively open, so non-club members are still able to use it.

think about this. if the club choe to close the forum to non-members, you (and they) would lose out a lot more.

in this initial period of wookie extinguishing, some people may not be able to post things for sale.

however, if someone does not make a positive ontribution to the club or forum, why should they be allowed to sell things for free, as opposed to having to pay for an ad in ther mediums? especially when this is such a profitable targetted medium.

easy thing for everyone to do is to positively contribute. you don't need to be a braniac. you just need to be involved and make positive contributions. myself and a few others have +5 rep power now. this means that just a couple fo good posts noticed by these people (or a single good post that appeals to many people) will get you the 20 extra rep points you need....

or since you are in NSW, you could become a member...

edit: allowed...= aloud... just different meaning

Not really that, but what you say may impress some, while it may not impress others.

There are some of us who don't give out much rep.

    FAQ for you boy

or you could read the sticky at the top of each for sale section..

you are going to sell your toyota? perhaps you should read the rules for posting in that section
