    Default JZA80 Cruise Control

    Hey all,

I've got a JZA80 Supra, currently sans cruise control. I've had a look through some manuals and some wiring diagrams but I'm still not 100% what parts I'd need to track down to retro-fit cruise control, assuming all the wiring is there and all the components just need to be plugged in.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction or provide me a list of stuff I'd need? If possible, where it would be located on the donor car too?

    Cheers,
    Nathan

Find someone with a Celsior front cut and get the required parts from that. I'm not sure what the JZA80 uses but the MA70 uses a vacuum operated actuator (like the MX83, MA61, MX73) where as the Celsior uses an electric operated actuator (much like the sunroof/window motors).

But the list I can think of is

    • Actuator
    • Control Stalk
    • Clutch switch
    • Brake switch (if the stock one isn't a two pole)
    • ECU

    That should be it.

Does your throttle body have the two cams or just one?

If you are talking to me Mos I'd have to have a look.
Almost all 1UZ throttle bodies I've seen have had the 2nd cam.

If you are talking to Nathan, well, we'll have to wait now won't we!

I'll have a look when it's not dark.

And I could do without it, but I drive this thing every day.
    a) it'd be nicer to drive long distances with (I dunno, when we drive around Australia next year)
    and
    b) it's useful for saving fuel, and given current pricing, and the fact I drive it everywhere, that sorta adds up

I'll use cc for probably 80% of any journey of go on. 50, 60 ,70, it doesn't matter what the speed is, as long as the traffic is flowing the cruise control gets set and I just let the car do its thing.

Its not something that is only useful on freeways.

But then again, maybe your sydney traffic is teh suck and you can't do that.

It's Perth dude, 90% of my driving is on the freeway, but regardless I'm like Peewee, I can do whole trips using nearly only cruise control. Would've been nice for last weekends trip to Margaret River too

As an aside, I checked out and I do have the separate cam on the TB for a cruise cable.

If you're a good driver, CC actually uses more fuel, as it's reactive, not proactive...

IE, you see a hill coming, put another 5 - 10km/h on your speed on the flat, and wash it off up the hill, where as CC drops a few KMs an hour and then drops a gear to accelerate up the hill.

My old Commodore used to pickup 50% throttle to climb hills with CC on.

It's Perth dude, there are no hills Plus, cruise control systems tend to be a mixed bag, and the Toyota ones I've used have been quite clever. You're right to a point though, but I think the repeatable nature of cruise would outweigh any human because it's more consistent.

The cruise in my Supra was a bit of a mixed bag...
It was good, as long as it NEVER dropped a gear, as it then refused to go back into top gear, until cruise was shut down, let it shift up, then turn it back on.

That and the problem of not being able to set it above 110km/h!

Haha, it doesn't have control of that with mine

Hopefully it's the same as the Z30 Soarer, so we can fix that
