you might wont to put 2 breathers on it any way ,it cant hurt can it
I am going to put some mono grade 30 oil in it and take it out for a good flogging for about half an hour or more and see if the rings bed in any better , failing that it looks like a tear down and see whats going on

i have had a couple of engines in there and never ever had oil in the catch can and this one is pushing out about 400mm of oil in 10 minutes of hard driving,

This is way to much oil. Is it possible your new head gasket has blocked the drain hole for the oil from the head to the sump or it's not big enough. Note that some head gaskets can fit the wrong way around and it's very hard to see. If not, do you corner at 45 degrees or more and it's tipping out (its a joke). Remember your tipping out 400mils from a point on top of the engine - it's almost as though its overfilled.
would be very interested in finding out how you get on.
I built a couple of 20V engine's both the same, one filled the catch can and one diddn't,
and would love to know why.

valid point on the head gasket, i didnt personally put it on and being non genuine anything is possible, never had any oil in the catch can before and it has been always filled to the same height on the dipstick. head gasket could be suspect?
perhaps old mate put a ring on piston upside down ?
There is a a lot of possibilities, its likely you wont have any REAL idea what it is until you do a leak down test as well. That can tell you if its a ring problem, a head gasket problem or none of the above. It may be something as simple as a oil drain back blocked or a missing or misplaced cam cover baffle.......
checked my mates engine tonight and its pushing about the same amount of air out of the breather as my engine, thnking that the gasket is the culprit holding oil in the head..
can a 20v gasket go on backwards or upside down?
i checked with my mate who assembled it and he said the gasket would only fit one way, maybe there is a hole missing or not big enough to let the oil back to the sump?
problem found!!! I tried everything and in the end I pulled the motor down and found broken ring lands on #2 and #4 pistons, i have another set of standard pistons that I will put in as these ones are obviously rooted. the reason for this must have been when my thermostat died a few races ago and the motor got a bit hot but i didn't think it got that hot..
pistons were fine when we did the re-ring but obviously with some more work they have shit themselves.
Thanks everyone for all your suggestions and help
Cheers
Daniel
