Just because its cheap doesnt make it a good design. You may as well spend the coilover + reinforcement money on just getting it right the first time around.
Not disputing this but with the amount of money decent shocks and springs cost along with the adj perches and the time to fit it its not exactly a cheap path to travel. Besides, with the aud performing so well youll get a set of the coilovers landed for less than the cost of the shocks here.Originally Posted by merc-blue
Your also doing body mods to mount an 85mm coilover spring, plus modding the diff for the perch anyways.

Its all about budget. my initial suggestion of just getting a few pairs of springs made would be best IMHO, get some std low kings intialy and than test the car before changing the rear spring you may find they are perfectly suitable.
without a watts link there is no such thing as quick height adjustment. as each time you adjust your rear or front hight you need to move change the length of your panhardbar.
Also OC is also correct, thats the reason i suggested putting a eurethane bush or 2 in your rear end just to give it abit of give. specially with a panhard bar. i cant see it being smooth.

These are from a mob called GP Sports?
http://www.gpsports.co.jp/
..dont know much about them? Seems to be a few of these similar kits getting about now - there are a couple of mobs in the states making them too. I'm thinking about getting the Greddy set-up for my track car, seems pretty reasonable for the price?
All the same crap, different smell.
To be honest you would be better off making up a set of your own fronts with the rates and inserts you want, and then using good inserts for the rear with standard springs.

I've got the Greddy setup with adjustable spring Seat in my 86. These spring seats are not on car adjustable. There is simply not enough room to adjust them while they're on the car. I thought I let you know![]()
Sorry to hijack newbien's thread. But this is what I'm trying to work out too - is it better to go with a custom converted strut or is the Greddy set-up just as good without having to stuff around with building your own.Originally Posted by takai
I will be starting with the same spring rates that the Greddy set uses anyway and I'm sure you could get other ratesto play around with. I dont really care too much for the adjustable rear spring perch, although some adjustment is better than none I suppose. The price is probably similar between the two options (Greddy and custom conversion) except with the Greddy its all ready to go in one package - no stuffing around. I think it basically comes down to the quality of the damper? Well thats my thinking anyway? Please correct me!
before we go any further...its not to suit an ae86...similar but differentOriginally Posted by takai
i wouldnt be going down to an 85mm id...and the cost in re-enforcing the std mounts to accept the t3 coilovers would outweigh getting parts made...Originally Posted by LeeRoy

One, you title this thread "suit AE86"Originally Posted by newbien
Second, the car you have listed in the rides thread is a T18, which has EXACTLY the same suspension setup as the AE86.
Believe it or not, the suspension will behave pretty much exactly the same...

just need one bush, or maybe two depending on what exactly you are trying to achieve with your roll steer and roll/steer on power/decel. It is easy to model to see what happens.Originally Posted by newbien
but as you are seemingly very skilled and have thought about it, you will know where they go

yes, they do share the same suspension components/geometry, however the t18 chasis is known for being a weaker chasis base, due to the pillar-less design....Originally Posted by takai
so i figure i will have a touch more movement in the rear end...

i was only going to be changing the upper arms over to the cusco formula's....still trying to sort out equal length boxes at the moment, this will decide on the arms that end up in the car....
