Default AE86 Brake Upgrade - Nissan style

Ok, two ways to do this.

One is to machine the disc down to convert to floating disc setup, fit a ring to keep the disc hub centric, and voila.

Machined disc with ring looks like this

    Prototype bracket like this

Other option is to repeat the rear mount setup as per factory.

So, get a different ring made up, and voila.

Pic of the rear ring fitted.

Now, I'm led to believe that in doing a rear mount setup, that the disc will hit the LCA, but this can be overcome by using offset RCA's.
The only benefit to a rear mount setup is that you can run rims without the uber caliper clearance that is normally needed when doing a floating disc setup.

    So, who wants what?
Which ever is more popular I'll get stuck into working on first.
The rings will be around $10-$15 each, and the adaptors probably closer to $50-$75 each, and will be CNC'd out of Bisalloy.

    *hands up*

    interested in the rear mount

    i love you

could you give an estimate on how much clearance is needed to clear the calipers on a front mounted set up?

It was around 36mm last time I checked it.
It obviously hasn't changed, but I didn't make sure that measurement was 100% spot on, it was just a quick measurement.

FWIW MX73 Cressida rims fit over the 280x30mm Z32 discs and calipers.

What size discs are those? 280mm? Care to test with 14" rims?

14s will be a tight squeeze for sure. It'll probably be dependant on the way the wheel is cast but i think you could definately find 14s that will fit.

Cruz, the upgrade looks the biz! Won't be long before every Sprinter goes down this path for brake upgrades i reckon. Good work dude.

Yeah, there definately will be a few 14's out there that will fit.
Its going to be a matter of trial and error.

    Yer Cruz,

Put me down for a set of the rear mount adaptor brackets.

So, to do this you will need?

Z32/R32 calipers, what disc must you ask for?

    Anything else?

What size rotors are the Z32/R32 calipers compatible with? Will you make the adaptor to fit bigger discs?

    Thanks and good work,

    Jez

does this bracket work for the ra40 strut?
or will that be a separate bracket again?

If the RA40 strut is the same as RA60 then you dont need an adaptor plate as the calliper from a S14 or R32 will bolt straight upto the original calliper bolt holes. (100mm bolt spacing) (ST141 struts are the same also)

Cruzida can then supply a spacer and adaptor ring to bolt the callipers and the disc straight to the hub and strut.

I know this cause i have done it and bought some spacers and rings from Cruzida. (thanks for that)

that cruz, a bit of a gun isn't he with these adaptors for everything.
Alas no the bracket is different for the ra40 strut compared to the ra60 so the little spacer won't work.

Any problems with brake bias (piston surface area etc) that would need to be rectified via a bias valve? *sussing it out for a mate*

RA40 has same strut as RA23 - is different to RA60/XT130/etc...

Unlike the MA61, i'd be assuming the piston area will be bigger than the factory calipers, which to me, would suggest an altered bias. That said, you'd need to get someone to try it and find out!
