Maybe you could fluke it and find a set that fit, but generally, they are fitted as blanks and then tunnel bored. How many do you need?
I've got a 4AGE bigport head that I want to build up, however, I have realised that I don't have the caps that hold the cams in...
Can I just source a new set (from Toyota or wrecker etc) and just use them, or will they need to be 'adjusted' to suit the cam seat in the head?
What's the go with this sort of thing?
Thanks.

Ok, in that case, after you price a set, I have a complete head I can sell you![]()
So you can't get them?
I'm not sure for 4age, but I had a mitsu diesel 4d56 and it needed one (thread for rocker shaft had been fudged beyond repair) and either they were seriously dear or, I couldn't get them (can't remember which it was).
I was able to buy some used ones, get a close match (too small) and machine it out on the lathe to suit.
Not a good/easy situation to be in.
Perhaps 4age is better with availablity or, maybe toyota tolerances are tighter than mitsu and another set may fit?
Hmmm. I could pull the ones off my 4AGZE when it comes time to swap. I'll have to measure it....
You have to remember they have been worn in with the cams it runs.
Different cams / different caps can excessivly wear the cams.
You may want to get new ones. However where from i dont know.
Try ringing a 4age builder?
you cannot buy them seperate
if you got some from somewhere, you would need to get them bored
prob easier to just get another head
So whats the procedure when new cams (ie aftermarket/performance) are installed?Originally Posted by cuzzo

Ok. Anyone got a spare bigport 4AGE head?![]()
Shims yes, the caps that hold the cams down, no.
Yes so with the shims adjusted the clearances need to be checked top and bottom of the cam?Originally Posted by TERRA Operative
I have never done it before but this is my understanding.
