    Default How do you fill an AE82 Twincam Geargbox?

    Hi,
    Does anyone know where the filler hole for a front wheel drive 4age gearbox is?
    I just finished a swap and its the last thing to do before I take her for a test drive. I've got the service manual but its missing the gearbox section.
    How much should I put in and is there a guideline I should follow?

    hey mate i am not too sure about this particular box, but alot of fwd gearboxes dont have a filler plug so they need to be filled through the speedo drive, i am fairly sure you just fill it up to the top of the speedo gear. but im pretty sure you can look on the Caltex australia site and search for the particular vehicle and it tells you what oil and how much to put in.

    Thx Josh I heard about the speedo method so I'll have to look into that, and that Caltex.com.au site is real handy. You just choose your exact car and it tell's you how much oil goes into everything.

    Man, the only way i've known to fill fwd gearbox that dont have a fill bolt is to fil through the dip stick...

    Get yourself a 1L gearbox oil, pour that in to start, and then chop the bottom of that off, then you have yourself a perfect funnel...
    Make sure its one of those bottles with the lil nozzle thing that pops outa the top...

    The filler bolt on my manual rolla is on the front... like above, pretty sure it was a 24mm bolt too...

    Another vote for the filler being on the front of the gearbox.

    Otherwise drill a hole???

    Little trick also, when filling diffs, gearboxes etc up with oil, always check that you can undo to filler plug before draining the oil

    Must stress that before you drain your oil from the drain plug make sure you can undo the fill bolt off before draining
