    Default F-series Celica Supra axle

    Hello all,

I am trying to convert my 86 Corolla rear end to a 7.5 Celica Supra solid axle rear. The Corolla currently has the stock GTS 6.7 rear end in it with 4.3 R&P.

I tried to check the database at the top of this forum but it does not appear to be working at the moment. Here is what I have learned so far:

1979-1981 RA40 Celicas came with either a F-series 7.5 or a T-series 6.7 rear end. It appears that they were both a 4.10 ratio and both very similar in appearance. The F-series axle has an extra vertical rib in the third member on the drivers side. Axles in the F-series are much larger in comparison to the T-series axles.

Canyone tell me which vehicles had the F-series and which were the same T-series my Corolla is currently running? I am uncertain if it is year specific or engine specific. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am looking into the possibility of swapping the F-series internals into a 6.7 T-series housing. I have heard rumor it can be done but I have no real proof. I plan to find out for myself and post my findings here.

    Walter

F-series centre wont fit into a T-series diff, not just size as the bolt pattern for attaching the diff centre is also different.

We (Oz) got some MA45's (which look similar to RA40s) with F-series diffs.

Another diff donor is an MX13 but you need to transfer mounts.

edit: see Rob's post for correction - should be MA46/47 for F-series diffs

Thank you for the clarification. +rep

In this case I will have to look into swapping a complete 7.5 rear end. Anyone know how to distinguish which of the celica supras had the 7.5 rear versus the 6.7?

I'd say the axle code on the build plate would tell you what diff it has. No idea what the code would be though.

    just to be pedantic

the MA45 did NOT come with a F series diff they came with a T series

MA46 and MA47 came with the F series diff

in australia we tend to get MA45's come up every once in a while, they are rare but even rarer is a MA46 in australia. They were not released by toyota they would all be imported.

in the USA the MA46/47 was released by toyota so there might be more chance you would find yourself one.

as has been mentioned, open the bonnet and check the build plate.

if theyre mostly 4.1 ratio like youve mentioned, then the axle code will be F292.

if its T it will be T292.

to familiarize yourself, open your own "hood" and look at your build plate, yours will read T282, or T283 if your car came standard with an LSD.

i think the rumor you refer to may originate from the diff set up Tetsuya Hibino runs.

C&Y sports have built him the set up you described. F code centre and modified axles in standard (well modified to fit the F series parts) AE86 t series housing.

in your situation, living in the U.S, the "celica supra" axle is going to be your best bet.

T3 can supply you a control arm set (4 link)so that it bolts in.

Thanks again for everyones help. Sorry for the newbie questions I have no idea why I didn't think to look at the build plate. I will be going to have another look at the car this morning.
