Default 2tgeu efi problems - all fixed now, thanks for the help.

    I currently have a haltech f7b ecu.
Problem: engine starts and runs approx 2-5 seconds and stops. Any ideas would be good.
Spark is good (electronic dizzy) and fuel pressure around 35 psi

2nd: im thinking of ditching the haltec and using an old camira setup, has anyone used this system and is it any good.

I just want my celica on the road as its now 3 yrs on the restoration wagon.

    Thanks for any feedback.

does it use the factory cold-start injector? if so then it sounds like that;'s the only thing supplying fuel.

Or, how are you powering the injectors ... from a 12V source that statys on during cranking (starting) and running?

With the laptop plugged into it (you probably old need something running W2K or W98) what does it show when the motor stops? are the injectors still being pulsed?

    No cold start injector,
according to data logging (this system is old - runs on 486 laptop as a dos prgm)
injectors are still being pulsed when eng stops.
It does have a cranking feed from starter to ecu for start mode, and i did think that it may have only fueled up on start, but not the case.

what does fuel pressure do when you start cranking the motor and then when it runs.

the old camira setups are good (JE Camira) it's the delco 1227808 which is the same as VN--VR Commodores. Works with a dizzy also. You'd need kalmaker or something to tune it. Might be easier to just stick with what you have.

Does it just die in the arse after 2-5seconds (most likely electrical) or does it cough and splutter then die (most likely fuel related)?

check the actual power supply to the injectors (the ECU just provides an earth for them to make them open up) - it does sound like they're running on starter power.

fuel pressure is maintained when cranking
just dies in arse with no cough or splutter. Im going to check the power at the injectors today.
Am i right in saying +12 v constant at the injectors and -12 v (E) pulsed from ecu?

What is the ignition timing when the car trys to start? (computer should tell you also, check with light also). About 12 or 15 degrees should work.

How many miliseconds is the ECU making the injectors do when trying to start? (Computer should tell you this, check you have power at injectors with multimeter, check you have pulse at injectors with noid lights). About 10ms when cold, depends on injectors. Or maybe 3ms for huge injectors.

timing is around 12 deg. (timing light) ecu has no timing function: fuel only
injector pulse from memory is set at 13ms
    what is noid light?
can you pick up inj pulse with multimeter?

Hard to pick up a pulse with a regular multimeter (but I am sure some can). This is why you connect a light to the injector plug so hopefully you can see it flash when you crank. I think they are called noid lights from memory. They come in a plastic case from your Bosch dealer or someone like that, and you get several of them to fit different injector plugs. It just helps you know that you ECU is putting out an injector signal.

Experiment with different fuel settings (5ms or 15ms). It could be way too rich. When the engine starts, it may only want 4ms.

I will try a few of these things -off to the shed....
I have a engine diagnostic multimeter - but havent looked at what it can do.
Other than that i will see if my other multimeters will pick it up. although 1 is auto ranging so would respond to slowly to see anything
    + rep thanks for help

you can make a noid light with a 12V automotive LED or a cheap, bright LED from jaycar and a 1k resistor inline with it.

an incandescent bulb takes too long to light-up, whereas LED is instant on (just what you want for a 1.8 m/s pulse.
