I want to know if it is possible to convert a RA28 to r&p power steering?
I would love to be able to do this, although just r&p would be mad, but having power steering is just more apealing to me.
Im thinking of differing engines to use in the 28 aswell, something that can handle having the p/s pump on it, i would love to have a turbo, im not on the new p plate laws but with the way petrol is going - soon to be $2 a litre easily - i would rather a non turbo/ non supercharged motor. Thought of using a 1jzge with a w58 or similar gearbox, any thoughts?
Regards,
Andrew

haha thanks guys, i can harden the fuck up as much as i wantnah, its just that i want to build up the classic shape of a celica with newish day technology.
Celica's are very go-kartish already but still, would you pass on a p/s 77 ra28?

While you do have some decent input and have in the past ill be the first to say youve been an utter fuckwit in the more recent threads ive seen you post in.
If youve got nothing constructive to say then fuck off and if you like the feeling of shit steering boxes and their hard movement i suggest you drop the psi in your tyres and modify the ratios in the box to furthur show off your internet strength.

Sorry but I somewhat agree, the steering in my RA23 has never been difficult even with 205 tyres at parking speeds. I can see the value in R&P steering but power assistance seems utterly unnecessary in such a light car IMO.

Just throwing this in for discussion.. But with PS you could run a lot more castor = more dynamic camber, self centering, etc.
fair point i've been a bit of a tardOriginally Posted by LeeRoy

and i think a well executed rack and pinion conversion is very worthwhile
but i also think that power steering in a car with tare < 1000kg would have the following disadvantages:
- poor steering feel with little feedback
- more systems to fail ~ reliability through simplicity
- poorer economy and power at the wheels ~ parasitic drag
- higher maintenance cost ~ periodical fluid replacement
- higher complexity to install ~ fabrication of bracket, pump mounting, lines, reservoir, etc.
- higher install cost ~ cost of fabrication, lines, fluid, etc.
and the following advantages:
- even lighter to steer than already light steering in car with tare kg < 1000kg.
hope this is a more elloquent expression of my views than that given above and hence more useful to the OP
okthxbie

'Spose you have heard before - search is you friend. http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...ing+conversion
will provide answers to a lot of your questions as well as references to plenty of other treads of people that have done or researched the conversion.
