Cant change forum email to a gmail address?

It says the email address has been banned?

can this be resolved?

Unfortunately No.

For the time being we are not allowing any free email adresses to be registered to try and cut down on the wookie factor.

I will get Josh to explain it further when he can

But my existing email address is a hotmail address...?

Hotmail is free...

Unless I'm missing something?

Sucks a bit because the issue with iinet has still not been resolved, so those of us that can't receive emails through our ISP email accounts have no options

it will NOT effect existing accounts, but any new sign ups ( and i'm guessing email change to) will not be able to use a free email address to sign up with.

Yes it was put into place on Friday.

Long story short, there has been a few people that have been banned from the site that have signed up again and again under different user names. Not allowing free email addresses to be used will hopefully make it alot harder to do these type of things.

Agreed,

I had same issue with Iprimus when I changed ISP. I ended up having to use a hotmail account as my ISP email did not work

So if your ISP blocks toymods as spam, thats it???

Any existing account with a free email address associated with it will continue to work.

We made this change due to the abundance of retards who think getting banned and then just signing up a new account is a good plan. I know it doesn't completely stop it but it makes it more difficult for them to just keep on doing it.

Pretty much everyone has access to a non throwaway email address by ISP or work or education etc. The email addresses are not disclosed to third parties, we are doing the use a form to email members thing now. The profile can be configured to not get any emails from Toymods at all after signup if you are using an account that you don't want additional emails sent to.

I'm sorry about some ISP's blocking Toymods emails but honestly the people with accounts with them are the only ones who are going to get that policy changed. If your ISP blocks Toymods email I advise contacting them and letting them know that one of the things you pay a subscription for is being blocked by them but not by other ISP's and ask what they are going to do to keep you as a customer. The ISP isn't interested in our complaints only in keeping the money rolling in so the people that give them the money are the ones they listen to.

If someone has absolutely no way of signing up due to these changes they can email the board and we'll discuss options with them.

Any reason you cant change your ruling so that once you have signed up and been approved you can change your email? That way you still need an ISP based account initially but it also allows those who use free accounts to continue to use them after approval.

The problem is that the software doesn't differentiate between initial sign-up and changing your address. It can be done manually by an admin but there is no way to configure the software to not accept freeby email addresses for sign up but allow the members to change to them after sign-up.

If an admin was required to change emails all the time then its definately going to be easier to just ban it altogether - which is what youve done. After all, everyone involved with the forum does so on a volunteer basis. Thanks for the answer.
