Default W58 into TA22, exhaust hitting slave probs....

Ive got the W58 almost into the 22... at the moment its up on jacks, the spline is in, and the bellhousing is about 10mm away from the back of the engine. Im having a small drama though. I have the threads started on the two lower bolts (either side of the bellhousing), but on the passenger side there is a dowel next to the bolt hole, and its not lining up. On closer inspection up the top in the engine bay, it looks like the whole gearbox needs to be rotated a little towards the drivers side, which would mean that the dowel would then line up. This would mean though that the drivers side bolt will no longer line up.

I remember reading somewhere a while ago that there was 1 bolt hole in the 1G bellhousing that wont mount up to the T series engine, is this correct and can anyone tell me which one it is? Is it the drivers side lower one like I suspect? Or are they all supposed to line up and Im being silly?

I need a clear and straight answer, as at the moment Im the only one home so its a bit difficult to just rotate the box on my own to stuff around trying different methods to get it in.

    Thanks!

I had another look before I called it a night, im still thinking something isnt right by the way the holes are sitting at the moment. The gearbox looks like its sitting pretty straight.

Starting to get this sick feeling that the bellhousing isnt actually a 1G bell housing

start with the big bolts up the top, and then check around to see if others fit?

Yeah the problem is the top ones dont line up the box is slightly tilted and i have to do up the lower ones to pull it onto the engine a bit better. Cant really move it a great deal on my own either

Now why couldnt I find that in my searches?
I vaguely remember reading that a while ago now that ive seen it.
    Thanks OC!

Good news is im getting a 1G bellhousing off a mate tomorrow, and I KNOW its a 1G bellhousing as it just came off his 1G recently, so i can at least check it against mine and see what the GO is!

Maybe the dowel has been put in a hole thats not meant for a dowel? There is definately 1 bolt that doesnt line up but i cant recall which one.

Yeah i dunno the whole lot looks out, and I cant seem to find this letter stamped on either the bellhousing I have, or Gerrards 1G bellhousing.
I am using the 3T plate at the back of the engine, but its not lining up with bellhousing bolt holes, and Im assuming you can still use this plate with the 1G bellhousing.
Hopefully will have this 1G bellhousing off Kirk soon, so I can use it instead. I really think I have the wrong one.

Unbolt the bellhousing from the box and try it on the engine.

Well well well, Kirk came over with his 1G bellhousing and it fits to my engine perfectly
So the one I have isnt a 1G bellhousing, so hopefully i can work out what it is and sell it to recoup some costs!
Ahh well, thanks all for your help! Much appreciated.

    More issues
Went to put the extractors in and they hit on the throw-out fork and on the slave
Gonna have to look around for other brands of extractors to see if they might clear, I have genie ones, and the genies on the purple car also look like they will hit so I didnt bother pulling them off to try. I did have some pacemakers at dads but coincidently they just so happened to get taken to the tip on saturday

Anyone come across this in a T series engine, and can recommend any extractors that will clear? I think having to get some custom made, or get mine modified somehow may be the go, but not liking the $ side of things

Do 3TGTE and 1GGTE have the clutch fork on opposite sides?...

3TGTE? I would presume clutch slave its on the drivers side, opposite the exhaust. Cant be sure as im having troubles finding a pic. But a 3TGTE bellhousing is a pretty rare find and I would like to avoid pulling the gearbox out AGAIN to changer another bellhousing where possible.

If you want to know what bellhousing you had have a look around the edge of the bellhousing (the face where the head of the bolts sit) and you'll see a very faint stamp of an engine type 'G' R' 'M' etc.

Hard to see but def there.
