    Default Iso free 2 pack

Ok...i've searched and read plenty of posts stating you can buy iso free 2 pack, but i can't seem to find too much about anyone actually using it.
I would like some advice from those that have actually used it and what they think of it
Is one better than the other? Protec....Hichem?
Is it harder/ easier to use than other 2 pack paint?
    Is the finish as good?
Do you think it will last as well?
Any other tips or tricks i should know?
I have previously used 2 pack with satisfactory results but am concerned about its toxic nature.
My next job i plan to try iso free 2 pack COB metallic.
    All advice appreciated.
    Glenno52.

A couple of people (ae86tureno & ian from memory) have used it.

I have a can of Protec iso-free here, but havent used it yet.

    hi glenno 52
most of the 2pacs are safe now
if you are only going to paint occasionaly you will be fine ,but if you plan on making it your career yes then i would be more concerned
if you use a good quality respirator you will be ok
dont forget to suit up as it also can be absorbed through the skin
you can buy the disposable suits for a few dollars
people who smoke are in more danger than ones that use 2 pac

Thanks Ian. I'm a non smoker so I guess that will give me a head start.

Seriously ......Every time I am after information, I use the 'Search' first.
Sometimes I find what i'm after.....Sometimes I spend ages just going around in circles!
When I get too frustrated, i will then ask questions.
    So...here I am!

    hi
if people did not ask questions ,it is a sign that they do not want to learn .grasshopper
    lol
i didnt mean to suggest that you smoke
it was only a comparison , maybe a better way of putting it would be that it would be no more harmfull than exhaust fumes in an underground car park

Wouldn't be worried about suggestions anyway Ian...skin is too old and thick. I know you were only giving an example.
So, when you say 'good quality respirator', what sort of $$$ do you have to spend?
I probably only paint one car every two years on average, so i can't justify spending $500 on professional gear.
I'll be painting in a large open shed with good flow thru ventilation. Oh, and don't worry about the neighbours. The nearest house is 5 kilometers away.

    hi glen
i picked up a pretty good respirator for $60 it has the replaceable twin charcol cannisters
if you have a leaf blower blow out all excess dust the day before you spray
    prep you car
put an earth strap on it, wet the floor so you wont kick up any dust , and away you go , easy as
the disposable suits and a box of solvent resistent gloves should cost no more than $20
however the beer consumed when finished can be expensive

it'S not good to have the stuff harden in your lungs so resp is good
some people don't bother but.....not sure i'd wanna be coughing up 2pack to get it out of my lungs

From professional experience, iso free 2k clear is much harder to use than iso 2k clear...

You have to spray it on a lot wetter/thicker to retain a nice gloss, which gives more chance of runs, but the end result is usually a deeper gloss...

    Practice, practice, practice...

First of all though, I'd wan't to know why you have the requirement to use an iso free 2k?

My understanding is that the EPA doesn't allow spraying of ISO 2pack in ones back shed...

    That's completely correct...

I missed the large open shed bit, which was why I was asking him what his requirements for using iso free 2k were...

You will definitely have to use (legally) an isocyanide free 2k in your case...

I wanted to ask some q's about the same thing, they've been answered.
i'm in the middle of stripping my car for a paint job ....
however i did the rounds on the phone, Dupont is another brand the does iso free 2k
i don't know what dupont is like, will be getting a sample tin in a few weeks.

one thing i thought was probably not a good idea. done a fair bit of painting my self.
wetting the floor in a shed is not a good idea, because paint is moisture curable,
as the water is evaporating or any humidity, going from the floor into the air will go through
the spray mist from your gun. as you pull the trigger, the temperature of the paint drops,
sometimes significantly and this i thought could make the paint dry before it hits the panel.
    any thoughts on that ?

    cheers

    yes in theory
but the good spray booths like seeta have water traps mostly underneath the floor
you will get more moisture in your work by not having a dedicated moisture trap in your air line
or even worse painting on a humid day
2 pak dries from the inside out by chemical reaction . Acrylics dry from the outside in, its the solvents evaporating that dries it
    with the spraying
if the paint is put on dry that is not enough reducer [ to thick ]
    it will go on dry
have a look through the articles by peter from infotec that may explain more clearly than i have
    cheers

Only thought of using it to reduce inhaling toxic fumes.
So you think i'd be better off using normal iso 2Pac, considering i have an open shed and no neighbours?
