    Default Boost Spiking

    Hey guys,

My car is stock, apart from a TRD cat back, I think its 3-3.5"

Car is supra, 2jzgte, on the boost gauge it peaks to 1,6bar! I know the ceramic wont last long with that pressure, and it does cut out like it should from factory.

Anyone know why this couls be happening? My other supra i had never had this issue, and it had more modifications!

Apparently according to my limited knowledge of A80s... they tend to boost spike once you put a bigger exhaust on and you need to put a restrictor in the exhaust... I think thats what I read on supraforums...

Hopefully someone can provide more input sorry...

when does it peak, like when the turbo spools up and it should normaly open the wastegate does it just keep going then come back or does it spike towards the end of the red line.

the stock exhaust system on an A80 is very restrictive, namely, to control boost....when it is replaced with a higher flowing unit, boost increasing...as does the tendancy to spike....on a cold night, with an auto and only this mod...it is possible to run into boost cut...but at 16psi, every time you come on boost hard....its gonna cut out..

so solution is...live with it, do a TTC mod, look it up on supraforums, or put the stock exhaust back on....or electronic boost control should help control the spiking!

    hope this helps ya out

haha Doofy, i wish! love the responce of the twins, so dont really want a big single or ttc

Its only in say 4 5 6 gear. 1 2 3 will run up to 1.2 bar without it even cutting out, on the freeway, say im in 6th, and I floor it, thats when it will hit 1.6bar!

Im definatley in the marking for a boost controller now. HKS EVC 5?

im researching boost controllers, i was looking at the HKS EVC5 only cos it looks good, but read the Blitz Dual Solinoid is the best for them.

Also i just did the front part of teh exhaust, so turbo back, high flow cat, and now the car is missfiring. Im hoping its the spark plugs, just tookt hem out, they seem old...and platinums?

yeh .8 is a good start but even .8 at 1.6 bar with stock ignition might have trouble, but some people get away with it.

i like the boost controllers that have a overboost warning and can open the wastegate just in case.
