    Question 3rz turbo choice

    Hi all,

I'm currently in the process of building a turbo 3rz for my hilux. The engine itself has got forged pistons and rods, standard crank with something my engine builder said he's going to do with it multi layer head gasket, head studs and so on.

Basically the motor is about to be sent in to be bolted together so after this i'm going to be needing a turbo to suit my application. I'm looking in the region of around 200+ rwkw on big boost but i'm trying to maintain the vehicle as a work car so probably a dual stage with a lot lower boost for daily duties.

It'd be great if i could maintain some kind of driveability for work on low boost without being a lag monster.

Just wondering if anyone about has had much real world experience with 3rz's? Obviously lots of people out there have done this conversion so any help would be excellent. Was kind of thinking a garrett gt2871r or gt3071r. Close?

    Cheers,

    Sam

for 200-250 rwkw you would be hard pressed to go past a GT3071.

what sort of boost figuers do you want to run?

when do you want it on boost?

are you going to chase more power later or would you be happy with 250rwkw?

a GT3076r could be used without it being too laggy if you want more power later.

    cheers

Well boost figures will be determined by how much i'm making on the dyno. I'm trying to get this thing built so i can throw pretty much anything at it without any problems. I'm guessing that it's going to be up around 15-20psi making 200+rwkw.

I'd also like to have it running round on around 10psi for normal driving.

As for when i'd like it to come on boost, being a relatively low revving motor it'd be nice for it to come on around 2500ish rpm. Reasonably early if possible.

That's where my problem lies, i don't want to go too big so it comes on just before it hits the limiter. That's why the gt3071r sounds like a better option. And as for more power, if i want it in the future i'll buy a bigger turbo then

    Thanks for the info mate

    Cheers
