    Default 79 corolla 4age

    hi people,
i have just been given a 79 corolla with a 4age (not fitted at present ).the motor was removed to replace the solex carbies for efi but 1/2 way throu the wire of the computer the prevous owner decided not to finish it for some reason. im thinking of running some 40mm or 45mm webers or putting the 20 valve version in what is the best option?? please give me some ideas on witch way to go. keeping in mind that the car has been sheded for 8 1/2 yrs so im going to have pull the 16 vavle motor down if i am to use it ( i got 2 4age with the car and the carbies were given away) also what mods would you suggest i do to the motor while i have stripped down (ie cams etc) ?
sorry for the long post !!!!! andc thank you in advance for any advice given to me!!!!!
as it has been 10yrs since i have played with any modifed cars but im keen to get this corolla back on the road

EFI will be better than carbs for day to day, and, as a bonus... can be made legal.. as opposed to carbs (then again, anything goes in SA.. until you get caught)

strip, clean or rebuild the 16V, whack it in with EFI and go have fun

can use the 16V intake, get a plate welded to other end to face forwards. done many times.

the ITB's can be done and there are off the shelf adaptors, but to get the best of it, need aftermarket ECU?
at first go the 16V intake... perhaps?

Have a read of Bill Sherwood's site. It will tell you everything you need to know about 4age's. Phil Bradshaw's site also has lots of good info. Also search on here and the old Toymods forum as there is plenty of info on this subject.

What type of 4age do you have. If it's a bigport, you can use a rwd manifold. If it's a small port you can buy an adaptor from techno toy tuning in the states to bolt the rwd bigport manifold on or you can cut and shut the smallport manifold as oldcorollas suggested.

I would suggest to stick with efi as well. The other problem you will have with running the carbs is sorting out an ignition system as the factory ignition on these runs through the ecu. I have read some threads on here about it so have a search.

Good luck and stick with it. Done properly it will be a fun car when it's finished.

if you are thinking of using 4age 20V quad throttle bodies with you EFI setup there is a place called Techno Toy Tuning that sell an adapter that allows you to use them on the 16V heads. Here is the link http://www.technotoytuning.com/productdetail.php?p=372

I also have an ignition module (aftermarket) that allows you to run 4 individual coils and uses a CAS (crank angle sensor) when using carbies if interested. ie. it is a standalone ignition module. But I would go for EFI if I was you
