...anyone got any quick advice for what problems I should look out for?

It's been put into a TA22, has a Haltech ECU but other than that is stock. I've done a search of the forum and found heaps of great modding advice, but I'm just after a few hints as to what goes wrong with them.

Apart from the normal second-hand engine stuff, check out the timing gear if you can. Stretched chains, worn guides and leaking tensioner are common in old twincam Toyota engines, and it's not cheap to fix.

Well, nice engine, surge tank, twin fuel pumps, rubber up the side of the rear guards lets me know it's been driven hard.

I checked with 3 jap import businesses and 2 local car parts stores and all 5 places said they didn't have/couldn't easily get parts for the 3T-GTE.

Anyone have any hot tips for parts? I didn't buy the car as I don't want a lump of metal that's difficult to source parts for.

    Hey mate,

Try "TheToyman75" or "Yellorolla" on this site.

They will get you EVERYTHING you need

Make sure the chain tensioner is not rooted, ie. Stripped,
    They are impossible to find.

I think I'm going to pass on the motor, as I've had rare motors before and don't really want to be bogged down with finding parts.

SR20DET is a cheap option, anyone performed this conversion before to a TA22? Is there a summary thread someone could link me to that I could browse?

    btw, sorry Toyota purists
