Are you using the spring to tension the pulley, or are you using a screwdriver or something? Because if you dont let the spring do the work, it squeals. Been there done that.
is it the bearing in the dizzy,
plastic hose as a stethoscope may help

Ooo, i like the tensioner idea, i'll give it a go mate.
Also, my sound is only there after it's warmed up...

If it's a sound that kind of jumps around in octaves in a distinct pattern, search for something like "Bush spigot mobile phone pidgeon" on these forums, Jezza fixed that problem, I have it aswell on the AE71 but cbf fixing it, doesnt effect performance in any way so it doesnt bother me.
Unless you are referring to an induction squeal, which also happens for me at about half open throttle, wouldn't have a clue, but again not a performance issue and nothing to worry about.

is it constant, or does it kinda fade in and out? could be the AC clutch, mines doin that ad the moment. my original fan belt noises were caused by belt tensioner not actually being bolted on, im sure u would've checked that already though
Nah, it's pretty constant, but only when the engine is warmed up. Stays the same pitch, and has a new tensioner pully and no air con...??

have you got the timing belt covers on your car,
Timing belts can do this when they warm up and get tension, make a slight buzz as it spins
Im just a little lost but ill be fine!
Have you removed the timing cover yet?
Was there any marks on the inside of the cover?
Reason I ask:
My Nissan Pulsar N13 Antichrist had a problem where the timing cover would touch on the cam pulley and cause a wicked squeeling noise.
Sorry to dig up but reading this I have this exact problem I reckon. Did you guys ever sort this out? I've gone and ordered a new crank pulley hoping it's that but it may not be. I thought it might be the tensioner too but someone mentioned they changed it and it still squeals.

I had completley forgotten about this, my memory is a bit fuzzy but I'm pretty sure it turned out to be a leaky intake manifold, and it was fixed with the 2nd gasket change and some holymar spray!!! I definately didn't have to change anything major!
It was just a freak coincidence that it sounded like it was coming from the front of the engine somewhere!
Good luck with fixing it! Post up here again when you've got it sorted!
Cheers!

Thanks Whitchy, it is interesting that it turned out to be a vacuum leak. I find that it does squeak on gear change once the BOV has released the pressure. However the reason I felt that it was something more sinister is that I can hear a rattle from around that area. My car is notorious for having freak coincidences happen to it so it could be something else.
Tell me, what kind of gasket did you use?

Hey guys, mine turned out to be excess vacuum pull from the manifold resulting in air sucking IN through the rear main seal! A one way valve and t-piece into after the air filter fixed the problem so it can 'breathe' if the crank vacuum gets too high. Any ideas on why the crank vac would get too high?
Cheers

I had the exact same problem with the vacuum pressures - i thought mine was due to my cut 'n' shut RWD conversion on the 4AGE....so i ran a breather hose from just after the filter to the intake - that seemed to fix the problem

Hmm fair enough, I'll take a look. I went over it a bit more today and did some checks, I seemed to be a little low on oil which could have been due to blowby.
Here's a youtube link to a vid I made yesterday.

Look closely you can see the crank pulley appears off balance a little. Also listen to a slight rattle when it comes back to idle.
Looking around I seem to hear it from near the oil pan which worries me immensely, surely my rebuilt motor hasn't already spun a bearing?
