    Default 4age engine mounts

I have a 1991 ae92 seca SX with 100kw 4age and my front engine mount( that bolts on to the crossmember) is fucked! all the rubber has pretty much fallen out it. Toyota want $131 for a new one and i think that is a ripoff! So im wondering, is there any after market part i can replace it with...

Or if i was to go to the wreckers and find a good condition one off an ae92 with a 4afe engine will that fit?? (4age sx's are hard to come by..) To my understanding they both use the same block, so is a 4age front engine mount interchangable with a 4afe front engine mount??

    cheers.

probably the easiest way to find out is either a) go to a wrecker and have a look, or b) ask toyota to look up if they are the same part number.

a couple of things you could do if all else fails however, either take that mount somewhere that can redo them and get the centre remade in urethane, or somepeople do this, it should be ok, you get a tube of sikaflex, (the same stuff windscreen places use to glue your windscreen on) just put the metal slide in the right place and fill the mount with sikaflex. this will make the mount quite solid however and will take about 2-3 days to dry solidly, so you can't use it in this time

i did this with my mounts when they broke last time, its holding up quite well

the sika flex works a treat (255 or 291) but if the rubber has all broken and is falling apart then its probaly better to replace.

noltec do replacement inserts for ae92's.

I sikaflexed the mounts in the two and it has the held up well.. although they wernt torn . just sagged and streteched enohgh to casue unwanted movment.

The Noltec one is really good, just be careful with rego. They forced me to take mine out and put a stock one back in. Thankfully i knew where an AE92 was up on stands and borrowed the mount for a day.

When I took my AW11 in for regency inspection after I imported it they expressed a dislike for the red urethane bushes citing that they are harder on the chassis and need to be oiled.

    They passed it anyway though.

Probably had something to do with the fact that there was a GZE sitting in the engine bay rather than the smallport which is normally there.

I went through about 5 mounts in my ae82, i got urethane ones made up for about $60 each. They dont break at all under stress but found them to vibrate the dash, and they dont give the motor any free play so i just used one urethane mount at the front of the motor that still allowed the motor to rock back a bit under accelaration, so if you get them made up make sure you get a about 4-5 holes drilled through them so they flex a bit or use sikaflex its softer & you wont't have anoyying vibration, I haven't had anymore probs & all of the fwd rolla's have the same mounts.

One of my engine mounts (the one on the left if your looking into the engine bay) was broken by the previous owner, and he said it cost about $150 to replace with genuine parts. As i am in perth, toyota had to ship it over from the eastern states as they are in short supply here.
