Default SOLID engine mounts, any experience?

    hey guys,

with my 1g in the 23, it uses 300xz engine mounts, they are the most basic designed mount ever, yet they are $330 TRADE EACH

now some searching has led me to find that they are a pretty shit mount, and dont take much torture from higher hp motors,

i have seen solid mounts in honda FWD darg cars to reduce HP loss thru the drivetrain,

have come across some SOLID BILLET alluminium engine mounts for $130 for the pair,

so has anyone had expeience with them? and any thoughts on them?

(or anyone have any ideas for similar mounts?)

    these are them,.

Ive got solid engine mounts in the supra, theyre the ones byteme from the forums designed/makes... Theyre solid with poly bushes on each end

They seem to do the job pretty well, theres a little more vibration at idle, but nothing all that noticable, and it seems nicer throughout the rev range, just a bit smoother (maybe its a placebo effect but its what I noticed anyway)

Out of interest, in NZ to run them legally you must also solid mount the gearbox. Apparently the extra stress will be concentrated on the gearbox mount if you don't.

Theyre noisy and vibrations travel into the cabin a significant amount more.

I am also led to believe the shocks that the car is subjected to are shared with the engine more and can lead to engine damage. ie in bearings and so on, however i have no solid evidence on this. In my mind it is the same as harmonic balancers having a rubber center to reduce vibrations on the crank.

they solid mount the motor and also align the cv/driveshafts so they are dead straight,
(as hondas have a funky driveshaft angle)

Its pretty simple though. Energy spent rocking the engine is energy that is not being used to propell the car.

i cant speak for engine mounts, but when i solid mounted my gearbox, by fark was it loud - this was the 1J in my 180sx !!! and the vibrations were crazy.. if its for a daily driver, i personally woldnt... the power gain V's "discomfort i dont believe is worth it.

get something more like this http://www.tougefactory.com/shop/?sh...48739&cat=258& would still be liveable and provide enough flex to avoid cracking shit.

No way would i go solid mounts for a road-car.

The urethane filled mounts on my Starlet GT are bad enough... everything rattles at idle.
