Got an answer from WTFAuto (tristan hewitt).
Apparently no mods required. they drop straight in, only require shim adjustment like any other valve replacement.
Hi all,
I'm rebuilding my gen3 3SGTE and am in the process of sourcing valves. As far as I know, the valves on the gen2 and the gen3 are different, however haven't been able to find out if they are interchangable (gen2 valves going into a gen3 head).
Has anyone gone through this process before since toyota want an arm, leg and ball for a set of 16 gen3 valves, i'm seeing if the after market gen2 (ferrea) can just drop straight in.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks for replying with the answer, bit of extra info I just learnt. Good luck with your build.

They're the same in all the normal measurements of length diameter and stem etc. The only real difference is the wasted stem behind the valve head on the Gen 3.
I put 1mm oversize ferrea valves, which are listed only for Gen2, in my Gen3 when I built it.
Yes that is the path i will be going. 1mm oversized ferrea.
Thanks for the reply josh. How'd those brake brackets end up on the a dub?
how are ferrea bits sourced in this country?
Ebay is your friend. haha
straight from ebay motors or some other US source seems to be the best bet, double the price seems to be a RRP in aust.
cheers

the lengths are different by about 1mm. not hard to solve if you know about it when building the head.
