As far as I know, you can use an AE86 Sprinter strut in a TA22, but you need to use the TA22 strut tops. Not sure what else may be required though.
Hey guys im not sure if this has done before but im trying to put a thread together with info of which struts can be swap over from different cars. Please include the measurements also. The first thing i would like to know is would a toyota sprinter strut fit a Ta22 celica and will there need to be any modifcations?
Cheers,
David

SPIDA - 1974 TA22 Celica (2TGEU 1600cc with Garrett GT25 320HP turbo) Dyno - 168.9HP at 10PSI, 14.8 sec quarter (so far)

You can also put XT130 or early RA series Celica struts into the celica. I believe using the TA22 strut tops and either a custom wound spring or by replacing the lower spring perches with TA22 ones. And you can keep the TA22 shocks in these struts if you make up a spacer of about 20mm. I know there are quite a few other swaps that people have done but they are the only ones I know of off the top of my head.
yeah well i found custom made coilover using the sprinter stock struts, im assuming it will have stock shocks inside as well. As far as the springs go they definetly not stock ones, they are adjustable with custom sleeves.
I mainly just want my car to be lowered so i was thinking getting lowered or shortstroke (if they are the same) inserts put in also for abit of control to. Any good brand names in mind? I was thinking AGX? but dont know how much they'll cost
Supercheap can order in the kyb agx for celicas which will fit the sprinter strut with either a spacer or by cutting it down , the go for about $250 or $350 each cant remember was a while back since I checked.
would you happen to know whether mr2 shocks will fit a ta22?
'Short stroke' refers to shorter piston travel ie: shorter (lower) shaft poking out the top. Needed to keep lowered coils captive.Originally Posted by dave-86
'Short body' inserts refers to obviously a shoter body length insert which will need a spacer under it or shortening the tube to suit. Needed to give more bump stop clearance on very low cars.
The XT130 type struts are are a common swap and have a larger, stronger stub axle.

im abit confussed now. So what would you recommend if you wanted to lower your car. I notice cutting the springs made the springs sit losely. Whats the advantage with short strokes over normal ones. At moment my car is sitting on some heavy duty monroe gas shocks with chopped springs front and back but only at a height slightly lower than stock.
The car still gets body roll which i hate, my main objective is to reduce body roll. i've tried reducing it by installing heavyduty front sway bar which help abit, but i still get abit of body roll, im thinking its from the chopped springs.
Get some proper lowered coils.
Get some short stroke inserts to keep the coils from being loose when jacked up.
