Here's a few pics of fitting a GT28RS to an SW20 turbo. The brief was to get some more grunt out of it whilst getting rid of the ghey ceramic turbo, fit a new clutch, new fuel pump and ecu.
After looking at "hi flow" std turbos at $2k odd I suggested a GT28RS would be a sure thing for good power and response.
The owner supplied some ebay bits that we were to fit if possible. These included exhaust manifold, dump pipe and intercooler kit. We ended up only using the manifold and chopping the dump pipe up to suit the garrett, the intercooler was not used as the car already had a jap upgrade core that was nicer than the ebay version.
We had to make an adaptor to go from the twin scroll toyota flange to the T25 garrett. I had a mate to knock this up from 50mm plate on a mill. We then hand finished it to match the manifold and turbo.
The turbo was then mounted and I made a dump pipe from bits of the ebay dump and a T25 flange. It is ridiculously tight, everything is on these cars.
We then knocked up an intake and hot side pipe to suit the spud.
We also fitted a new fuel pump. The tank is mounted in the tunnel of the car and has to come out to get the pump out. The access hole was not large enough for a bosch to go in so we fitted a walbro instead.
We also got a wolf V500 plug in ecu for it, mainly because that is all that's available for them. We haven't fitted it yet as we were supplied with the wrong patch harness. More specifically, the car has been replated to comply with the pre 89 import rule when it is actually a 93ish model.
So it's running the std ecu atm and runs and performs well. Should see 180kw atw from it.
