    Default 18R distributors...

    Hey....

I took my dizzy off my celica because it had a nasty oil leak and filled with oil. I've had recent suspicions that this isn't the right dizzy though to begin with. My brother got it for me years back and we thought it was the 18R with the 22R internals, but with the problems I've had since using that dizzy lead me to believe it might be just a 22R dizzy.

I can't find an 18R dizzy anywhere to compare it to, I have a 22RE one lined up to take the guts out of, but dont have it yet to compare.

Does anyone have an 18R mechanical one lying around they dont need? Even just some photos might help with me indentifying the one I've been using. Either way the one I've got is pretty stuffed so I need to get a functional one lined up.

Thanks in advance for the help!

    Tiffany.

Those pics are a big help, thanks.
I found what I think is my old dizzy at mum & dad's this arvo. Looks like the one in the nippon denso pic.
Also picked up the 22re dizzy, hopefully I can use it.
The dizzy I was running is definately not right! The casing looks nothing like the mechanical dizzy casing. No idea what it is but I'm feeling like a retard for not figuring out this earlier.
No wonder my car's been running shit for ages.

    no worries

the knob on the side is what toyota call the octane selector. most people
use it to fine tune the advance.

    cheers.

Can anyone help me identify the distributor I've been using? I think it might be from a corona, but it looks nothing like the 22R one I picked up today.

that looks like a retro-fitted "hall-effect" distributor... possibly from a mitsubishi.

Its definitely not a genuine Toyota item.
